Another Alternator Question

Ok so I posted the other day about a possible alternator problem and I'm pretty sure now it is in fact the alternator. I'm only getting about 12v at the battery with the engine running. The alternator isn't really making any noises so I'm not sure how bad of shape it's in on the inside. Anyways so I've decided to replace the alternator.

My problem is such - honestly alternators are expensive here in the UK compared to what I can get back in the states. And I can't find any high quality re-builders (like AC Delco which offer a lifetime warranty.) I get free shipping to my APO (American post office, here on base) and I'm thinking of ordering the part from an American supplier. I've checked and the part number for a 2004 Accord here is the same exact part number for a 2004 TSX so that's not an issue. The problem is it can take up to a month to ship over the pond... so my real question is, how much damage do you think I'll do to the battery in that time running at only 12v? The battery is brand new and has a 3 year warranty on it, don't know if that covers me killing it lolz.

Oh and I read a bunch of DIY guides on here which are great, but I just found a really good video on youtube if you're more of a video person.

Have you tested it with the engine on and all the toys?

I didn't like to say, but with your American roots and free shipping you could become an unofficial tsx spares dealer here :lol:

Yeah it was around 12v (****og gauge unfortunately) with the engine and accessories on. Also I shopped around and amazon offers 5-7 day shipping to APO's. That's on average with a maximum of 21 days for remote locations but I wouldn't call the UK remote.

I'm so glad someone told me about my car being a "TSX" it opens up a whole world of opportunities.

If the alternator is knackered the battery won't last long at all, I'm guessing its putting out something. Its worth getting a independant to check it over by removing the plug from the alternator and checking voltage at the pins as the smart charge module could be faulty and not the alternator itself?

You can use a breaker yard to get it cheaper aswell.

I've gotten quotes from breaker yards and they range from 90-130₤ with 30-90 day warranties. I can order a Denson or AC Delco for 130-180$ (80-115₤) with lifetime warranties...
