Automatic choke?

As above does a 2.2 i-ctdi have an automatic choke? or what else could be my problem. On morning start up or cold start I have idle hunting most of the time somewhere between 800 rpm to 850 rpm then other times it will idle higher as if a choke is on around 1000rpm but once warm it idles perfect?

This is normal
Every car with fuel injection have an automatic choke
When the engine is cold the ECU deliveres more fuel to the engine so in this way it warm up faster to the minimum operating temperature required for normal idle
Don't wory about that

Is there a sensor or anything for this as the idle hunting is quite annoying reving up and down on its own until it settles. As I say this only happens sometimes but not every cold start. That's what's annoying about it. Will last about 3 min if left to idle
 
So the rpm's are going up and down ?
It is not linear like you start it up the engine works on 1k rpm for an amount of time and then drop on 800 and stay there?

No sometimes on cold start it will just rev up and down between 800/850 then other times it will be fine and idles cold at 1k then settles at 800rpm
 
That's a bit strange...
You should go to a local mechanic and connect your ECU to the tester to see if some sensor are sending wrong values to the ECU

Only fault showing is a temporary dtc. EGR valve system open. Have a known good egr going on this evening will be interesting to see if this cures the problem as well as the 1500 rpm hesitation/ miss

There are many sensor for optimal engine running
With the tester i would check water temp value, intake air temp, air intake preasure, MAF sensor value, outside temp value... but that values you should check on cold start up to see if there are some "fake" values or if the are big variations while the engine is running
