Hello guys
I had a faithful Honda accord 2004 diesel that just disappointed me for the first time ( Clutch failed enroute London back home to hull) These trips, I had been doing fortnightly for the last 7+ years, the car is still in excellent condition with never once an MOT advisory or ever been to the mechanics, except petty brake pads etc

I am told it would cost £500 to fix without the fly wheel and an additional £500 (Total of £1,000) with the fly wheel

I am offered £130 to scrap it

My neighbour advised to keep both he insurance and MOT for another 1- 2 months and put the car on sale on both ebay and autotrader for £500 (explaining the above)

I thought I seek advise on what to do or what best way to scrap it

Kindly advise, many thanks

What's the mileage ?

Clutches will normally give plenty of warning before failing completely, was this completely out of the blue ?

134k

no it did not give any warning, my neighbour said that he thinks its the hydraulics as it was empty when he inspected it today, and there was no warning, I was driving back from london and got to the newark-lincoln round about enroute hull, when it fell flat at the roundabout

When you say fell flat is that pedal to the floor with no resistance.
If so then your clutch is probably fine and might be slave or master cylinder gone.
I had this on an old vectra years ago and a new slave was needed.
Gear box out on these but the Accord is accessible.

Yes it fell flat with no resistance

I see

my neighbour said the same thing you guys said, he said the clutch fluid was also empty and the master fly wheel had no oil stains so he said he believes the clutch is fine

however the garage i got it towed to is closed until the new year. So hopefully all should be fine

Or even better it could be a split hose somewhere on the clutch system.

A friend of mine inspected the car and said the same thing you just said, saying it must be the hydraulic as the fluid was empty. I had been reading it up online and watched this video youtube videos here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-m5F0zEvyo&feature=youtu.be which explains it all. It looks like a very easy fix as he described

And yes thats the symptoms i was getting, so i guess my old banger is not giving up the ghost just yet. The mechanic comes back in the new year (or next week) so its all good

As a quick check you could put a bottle of cheap fluid in the reservior, leave overnight with the pedal pushed to the floor and in the morning see if any resistance returns to the clutch system.

thanks, that did not work

However the mechanic said it was the master cylinder that is broken and said i can replace it for £200 and the slave was ok (does not need changing)

He said everything else was fine and that the thing about cars is there is no guarantee if the clutch could fail tomorrow or if I got another 2nd hand car, I would have the same problem.

Problem is I live in Hull and my daughter is close to london ( I have been through too many legal battles to stay in my daughter's life) so cant afford a new car right now. I guess my legal reps would be driving my brand new car :D
