Hi all,

Im looking at installing a turbo boost gauge for my next mod, and given the choices available I thought I'd ask on here first before diving straight in!

I'm after either plumbing in a pressure line to run a mechanical gauge, or tapping into existing sensor to run an electrical gauge. SO, my question(s) are:

Where is the best place to tap into a boost pressure sensor for the electrical setup? I've heard that the MAP sensor does not give an accurate gauge reading, and that a boost sensor which is read by the SCI directly is the way to go (correct me if I'm wrong, by all means!) If this is the case, where is it located?

If mechanical is the way to go, where is the best place to tee off of?

Thanks for any help anyone can give. I'll be sure to post a step by step guide with pics after the install!

I'd go for the simplest solution. Mechanical gauge, and tap a fitting into the inlet manifold or the up-pipe.
If you're still running EGR, you'll want to put it somewhere clean.

Brilliant, thanks.

Gonna sound really dumb now; exactly where is the pipe you're referring to?

Up pipe is from the intercooler to inlet manifold.

It'll give you the best representation of the boost the engine sees, as opposed to what the ECU thinks it's seeing.

You could get different results depending on where you place the fitting, but all that matters it what goes into filling the cylinders.
This is why the MAP sensor is fitted late in the system by Honda, and not down near the turbo.

I have a small manual boost gauge sat in my glovebox waiting to go in.
Gonna wang it in where the ashtray goes so I can steal power from the *** lighter for the backlight.
Means it can stay hidden and leaves the interior stock till I need to look at it.

Too much lag via the OBD2 to really see what's going on electronically via my phone, and of course it's just the car's interpretation of some electronic data anyway.

Might have to hook it up soon, now you've got me thinking about it.

Thanks, I see where you're pointing to.

I take it there are special 'taps' you can buy, as you are essentially drilling a hole into the large inlet pipe?

can i just ask where did you source an POD for the gauge ??? or did you mount it into the dash somewhere ???

Hi

Neither; I'm attempting a full custom gauge with a running linear LED display (each LED registering 1psi).

I'm basing it on a mechanical vacuum gauge for the pressure pickup values, but the rest will be a complete custom setup moulded into the dash above the clock.

Grant

hope you will post some pictures after the install is finished ;)
