2000 2.0 se exec
Hi all,
Am new to accords and recently bought a 2000 se exec. I have the Bose system fitted and it is the earlier radio/cassette. My question is did all of these come with the CD changer or was it optional? Where would I find the changer in the hatchback? Also is it still possible to fit an xcarlink to this unit as there is no aux option?

Cheers

If you have a changer on the hatchback version it will be in the boot on the left, behind a piece of the trim.

I know the xcarlink can be fitted to the CD player head unit (I have one), I would ***ume that the tape deck has the same port on the back. Look on the head unit, if you see a source change button labelled CD or Aux, then it will work.

I am sure on our generation of car you can't have both a changer and a xcarlink, because you would need a splitter cable. The xcarlink uses the same port on the head unit as the changer.

Thanks for the info! Ill have to have a proper look through the boot but think it may have been removed before I bought it. Ideally I was going to fit an aftermarket unit but have heard that it Is nigh on impossible to get the whole system including the bose amp and sub to work with an aftermarket unit? Do you know if the Bose cd/radio is just a straight swap with the cassette radio? That way I could have the best of all worlds with an xcarlink fitted too!

As Colin said the CD changer is in the boot on the left.

With an aftermarket unit, the system will work fully, only the Bose Amp that drives the Sub won't be able to work properly so you lose the subwoofer. You could go in and chuck the bose amp and install another one with a boot mounted sub which an aftermarket head unit would be compatible with. Overall though, the Bose sound quality isn't amazing, it's pretty decent but it's all down to the head unit, if you change it the speakers seem to produce a fuller sound despite the lack of a subwoofer. Yeah as far as I know the both have the same ports on the back and you can plug the CD head unit into the cassette one, again though, you're better off going for an aftermarket head unit with CD and maybe bluetooth and/or usb and auxilliary support which would allow you to link your phone with the unit and use it as a handsfree. Finally, if you want a quick fill in and you have a music player with a 3.5mm headphone jack and equaliser. Buy a 3.5mm to Cassette adapter which will allow you to plug in that music player to the stock head unit, for best sound I've found that butting bass and treble to 6 on the head unit and using a treble booster equaliser works best but play around and see what suits you!

I actually found I got worse sound out the Bose door speakers when I put a spare Sony head unit in :s it was a fairly old one though, not sure how my Alpine or Mutant head units would sound in there.

You apparently can keep the Bose sub & amp, you just need to splice the wiring from the Bose connector into the ISO wiring adapter. I'm not sure if anyone on the forum has a pin out?? I considered doing it in mine, but I actually found the sound quality in my 6g to be pretty decent and I didn't see the point in spending more money on it.

If anyone does rip out their Bose kit btw, I might be interested in nabbing it for my 3g :)

Is their any more info/pics etc on being able to run the bose sub and amp from an aftermarket headunit?

I really miss the mp3 capability and DAB that my Sony headunit has, but dont want to lose the sub and amp, although im tempted to try the aftermarket headunit if their is a chance the sound would be improved from the standard speakers so losing the sub and amp would'nt be much of a miss

It does depend on the headunit somewhat, with a Sony Xplod Head unit in, can't remember model number, it does sound quite good.
If you're going to go to the trouble of replacing a Head unit, you might want to upgrade sub at the same time while you've got everything out and it does provide a noticeable increase. Yeah the stock speakers are pertty good but listening to fm just gives horrible tinny quality.

Ive Got a xplod DAB700U, I might test fit it and see what the sound is like, Does anyone know if the iso convertor lead from a P plate Accord will fit the 6th Gen? Ive got one lying around thats all

Thanks for the info yadash. The reason I was asking is that I actually have a decent Kenwood headunit with usb and iPod control aswell as Bluetooth! And I have already got the cassette adaptor. Great minds and all that! Haha. Tbh I haven't really noticed the sub but am happy with the sound quality from the standard speakers and wanted to know whether losing the sub or amp would affect the quality at all. And wondered generally what people's experiences were with keeping standard speakers and changing to an aftermarket unit.
If I wanted to fit my Kenwood unit is there an iso connector available as all of the ones I have found say non Bose?
Cheers

They just say non-Bose as they don't have anywhere to plug the connector for the amp into them. They connect the main loom to an ISO head unit though, as it's the same as the loom in the non Bose Accords :)
