Here's a picture of the inside of the IMV - http://www.relentlessdiesel.com/media/fprmods/sidebysidelabel.jpg . The little bit in the middle is supposed to slide up and down to control the flow of fuel into the pump. Please note that in this picture the solenoid which moves the central part has been removed.
