When I first got the car over 4 months ago the changes were silky smooth from cold or hot.

Lately the first time it changes from 1st to 2nd when it's cold I can feel it and it feels abit notchy between the other gear changes. It's alot better when the car has been driven for a while and warmed up properly, also some days the changes are smoother than others.

The first time I drive the car from cold, I pull away, it then sort of hesitates (feels like it's braking and pulls back) before changing into 2nd gear. It will be alot better after that first change though.

I have changed the A/T oil around 300 miles ago and also fitted a new filter, which has helped alot but not got rid of the issue completely. I am going to do another drop and fill in 500 miles as alot of old oil would have still been in the torque converter. I am going away on Friday and was planning on doing it when I come back but I might do it before I go but is 300 miles too soon for another change?

Is there anything else that could be causing this, I'm thinking the sensors might need cleaning but I'm not sure where these are located?

What's the spec of the transmission oil you are using?
Which filter?
Mileage of car?
Other details of car?

It's all genuine Honda stuff for both oil and filter. Car is on just over 100k miles.

I am still getting the issue when I first drive the car and it changes from 1st to 2nd for the first time. Even with the whether warming up it's still doing it so the ambient temperature isn't making a difference.

I am doing another drop and fill for the oil this week and I'll inspect the colour of it, hopefully it won't be as black as the first change.

If it's still doing it then I think it could possibly be a sensor issue, I've read a couple of posts before about how replacing the sensor sorted strange issues.

My bet is its the oil mate. I had some problems with my box and after a good flush and genuine honda oil I think my takes 1.9l it gradually got better to the point now after some miles it feels like new

Hopefully it is just that, it was last changed at 75k miles, which is when it's first due and was done by Honda. Maybe they only did it the once so 25k miles later it's still got alot of old stuff in there. I've enough oil to do 2 more changes so will see how it goes.
