I have had the timing chain and injectors changed (under warranty) just over a year ago on my 2005 diesel Accord by Honda Dealer (1). In November I noticed the strong smell of exhaust fumes through the air vents in the cabin. I took it to Honda dealer (2) who diagnosed a cracked manifold which was out of warranty. Thankfully Honda gave me the manifold free and I negotiated the labour and the car was fixed in January. After the repair I noticed the smell was still there and has got worse. I have checked for fuel injector leaks and could not find any. I have the car booked in with Honda Dealer (2) to check what could be causing the smell of fumes. Has anyone had a similar problem after changing manifold and injectors? Cheers.

Was the manifold sealed correctly when replaced? I ***ume a new gasket was used and all the bolts torqued correctly? I've seen a few botched jobs of changing the manifold.

Jayok - I hope it is a simple manifold seal and not injector problem. One would think a Honda Main Dealer would know what they are doing.........wouldn't they?. :)

Edgeoftime - The manifold was only done a few weeks ago by HMD and won't cost anything for diagnosis and if it is manifold it is a free repair. The timing chain and injectors were replaced (warranty) well over a year ago by another HMD and will involve more costs but at least I can argue a price over bad workmanship if I have to go back to them. From what I have read on the threads here, the injectors can be a bit of a mare.

Is the smell there all the time? or only when cold and you standing outside the car? it could be the exhaust gas heater at work. Or even the air con smelling, I know mine does but it's when I am outside, there is no smell inside cabin.

Edge - The smell inside the cab is there all the time at idle and can get quite strong. With the circulation on it seems to go away. I took the plastic cover off but there is no obvious sign of leaks from the injectors but there is a smell of fumes which is hard to tell if it's coming from manifold or injectors. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. I have had the car for 5 years and it is coming upto a 110,000 miles with full main dealer service history. Apart from new timing chain, injectors, brake sensors, crank pulley, rear caliper, and manifold I had the dreaded VSA done (out of warranty) a couple of years ago . The car is still going on the original clutch as well :) . I have it booked in for Friday and fingers crossed it is a manifold problem.

Best of luck and let us know how you get on. The exhaust fumes can only come out of a finite number of places :)

Could it be that the pollen filter is just clogged with he smell and it's recirculating it through the cabin. Standing outside with a diseasel bonnet open and running, you'll smell something regardless no??

Sunny day to day so I took the plastic cover off and cleaned all round the injectors. Started the engine and noticed where the silver metal fuel pipe nut connects to the first injector a very small leak it was like air and tiny bits of spray but hardly noticable. I put some kitchen paper around the leak and when I took it off there was very small spots of brown stains and it smelled the same smell as I was getting inside the cabin. I am hoping that by just tightening the nut it will solve the leak and it isn't more serious and needs the injector removed. As I had my car booked in for Friday because I thought the smell was the manifold I phoned Honda to let them know what I found and I would just tighten the nut. The service guy was adament I leave the nut alone and bring it in on Friday as arranged so they could deal with it. I am pretty sure I am more than capable of tightening it just a little. :)

Good result Barry just give a week to see if the smell clears completely as there still might be some fuel left to burn of
