Went to Dorset camping for a few days Honda did dead well till we got about 50 miles from from then just suddenly came to a stop on the motorway, engine seems to be jammed, had to get brought home by the RAC, he reckons its seized

I am off for a few days now so will get the spanners out and see what I can find but I'm gutted if its seized theres no way i can afford a new lump for it, will keep you posted

How often did you check the oil level?
When was the oil last changed?

Bad news if it is seized - good luck.

gutted for you mate... Hope it's not that serious!

That's **** bad news

Get in touch with Si's(LUVMYACCORD) tuning guru (I'm sure he's in your area) pretty sure he'll be able to help with a diagnosis!

It looses a bit tbh, and I usually check it every time I fill up I din't this time and fair dos it had done about 500 miles but even so I only top it up every 3 or 4 fills, have managed to get the engine to turn a bit and it seems to jam every 3 turns in the same place, will have the rocker off and plugs out tomorrow and have a luck, either way it doesnt look good

VTEC Direct ATR specialists are based in Winsford.

Maybe they can help?

If not lack of oil then maybe overheating?

Is the coolant level normal?

Anything strange before hand

Harder to accelerate , noise or anything?

Are you saying you can rotate the engine fully 3 times before it jams ?

If the engine rotates then it's not seized - however, has the timing belt jumped (or snapped) have the pistons hit some of the valves?

If it has then it is basically curtains.

A seized engine can start to rotate again once it's cooled down and the metal parts have contracted.

I would turn the engine by hand using a ratchet and see at what point the engine jams. If it jams at the same point each time it will point to one piston or set of valves.

what is the oil level in the car at present?

Is there any signs of an oil leak or coolant leak. My mates car had the issue but his was due to a failing oil pump that starved the engine of oil. He also checked it regularly but it still failed due to a problem with the oil pump.

I would not keep turning the engine over but try and get someone to look at it.

When the car broke down how did the engine smell? You can usually tell based on the smell of the engine whether it has over heated or anything

Hope you get it sorted mate

Didn't make any noises, (had music on) didn't seem to loose any power and it didn't smell, loads of collant, the valves all seem to be moving ok, plugs are fine, din't notice any metal in the oil, seems to jam in the same place every 3 turns but then if you move it back a tad it will turn again 3 times and get stuck again, very weird do these have oil squirters ?

Hey dude, right.

First thing if you can take the car to Andy at VtecDirect as has been said he's in Winsford. Down school road near the Salt mine. You'll probably see mine there

Anyway. I don't know how much work you've done on the car, but the first thing i'd say is take the cam cover off, check the valve and springs, also check the retainers for the valves. Put a BIG spanner on the crank and get someone to turn the engine (with battery disconnected) and watch the valves and cams do their thing. If there is nothing that looks out of place there it might be a case of having to take the head off the car and having a look at the pistons and the liners etc.

Also i know it's a simple one, but check the position of the cam belt and the cam gears to make sure that everything is pointing in the direction it should.

Does the car have an auto or manual tensioner on it? The auto ones have been known to fail and this can cause the belt to jump, or worse, come off. If it's only jumped then the timing will be out by a fair way and this could be a problem.

If u can take some pics with the cam cover off, and maybe if you have to the head off, and then post up any more info you have and i'll see if i can help you.

One more thing. If you do manage to get the car going again, then the first thing i'd do would be a compression test on the block. No matter what it was that caused the problem, it's always a good idea. Especially as i'm guessing the car has over 100K miles on it.

Also, what oil have you been using and has it had a regular service. I service mine every 4000 miles.

Guys, surley if the engind seized whilst he was driving down the motorway it would have locked up the front wheels and drivetrain....

Did this happen?

^^^Depends how good the clutch is pmsl

I don't know and am only guessing but i think he means the engine died on the motorway and then when tried to restart it was 'seized'. Only a guess though.

Dipped the clutch, did decelarate quickly, thinking now its terminal looks like the bottom end as the top all seems to move fine.thing is it is difficult to get the sump off in situ but I think I may have to break it for spares anyway, theres a few things I have come across whilst looking around and it will cost a fortune to get going again and get it through the next MOT and I dont think its worth it, it has 178K on the clock so will never get much money if I try to sell it so I think I will cut my losses and sell the bits I can on E-Bay, sad day.

Worth checking though? Might not be as expensive as you think.

Good luck bud. If you do sell I hope you come back with another Accord :D

Will need tyres, drop links, headlight leveler is snapped, clutch slave cylinder is leaking, brake and fuel lines are corroded, tax is up end of month, brakes need a refurb and the laquer is peeling of the back wing, besides which I have had to buy another car to get around so even if I get it running it still needs paint to get it looking good enough to sell on :(

Sorry but it just doesn't make financial sense to fix it, and Dan I have not had a good time with Honda ownership, it has not been cheap to run, parts are expensive and they only do about 22MPG, , I am a Mitsubishe man usually and I own a Evo 6 TME which does about the same MPG but is so much faster and easier to drive fast, I know Hondas are usually reliable and great to drive, but mine did have spaceship miles and so it was to be expected having said I do like the ITRs' ;) so you never know

Just caught up with this thread sorry to hear about this Gazzor.
Is there any more developments or are you breaking her :(

same m8 just had a good read though the thread there :( totally gutted for you gazzor.
shame it went on you like that!

i have just spent my last week off fixing mine to get it through its MOT on tuesday there.

Hope you do come back to hondas :D as we are a awesome family, the ITR's are really nice but pricy aswell for a good 1.

keep us updated plz
