Hi All,

As the ***le suggests, I'm due to change the front and rear pads and discs on my 2007 2.2 CDTI Ex. Now...having read some of the tech topics, its fair to say i'm cr@pping it now! As an RAF aircraft technician i'm ok doing stuff like this but you got me worried now! Ive changed discs before( long time ago on a 405) but the rears on these sound scary. Any tips/advice most welcome.

Ok onto other bits....squeaky clutch pedal...yep...got that....get a syringe, a tube and some molykote. Just a thought on this, all the guys struggling to hold the clutch pedal down, maybe use a bit of wood and jam it to the seat/steering wheel etc? Would that work?

Having spent more time reading than fixing niggly stuff, Ive a couple of questions

I read somewhere about a cracked manifold being covered under warranty if the car is under 7 yrs old...is this correct? Would Honda know if mine had been done?
There was also something about the timing chain being covered or recalled or am I mistaken?

Misted headlamp...changed my offside main beam headlamp bulb just before Xmas ( what a *****!) and now its started to mist...hairdryer trick work or not? I really dont want to try and get that bulb out again is there an easier access point to get some hot air in there? Also read about the modification done by Honda on the headlamp clips, seems like most people have had problems post mod, is it worth doing then?

Thanks in advance fellas

Front brakes are the same on the Saloon and Tourer. Removing the screws that hold the discs on can be difficult, just make sure you use an impact screwdriver with the right size bit. After that, it's easy to remove the caliper with a 7mm hex bit. The piston should easily push back.

Rear brakes on the Tourer have a drum brake for the parking brake. Caliper comes off very easily. If you want to change the discs on the rear of a Tourer, if the disc will not pull off, don't try to force it, you need to slacken off the shoes on the small "star" adjuster wheel. Shrink your kids and put one of them inside the drum, or use a torch and a small screwdriver and play with the "star" adjuster for an hour or two.

Rear brakes on the Saloon have the parking brake integral in the disc caliper, to the piston is a wind-back type (AFAIK all calipers with an integral parking brake are wind-back)

I've found pictures and explanations of all the above in the DIY section.

Keith, don't worry mate. If you've done brake work before (even if it was way in the past) it'll all come flooding back. There's some great DIYs on here. Read them a few times and print them out so they're at hand while you work. I was a bit apprehensive about doing discs first time but it was easy. Then again, I have the saloon so no messing about with drums...

With the manifold the extended warranty is 7 years or 125k, the dealers should be able to look on their database to see if its already been done but if you get the smell of fumes in the car give them a call asap. I think the timing chain was the same deal but it was a warranty not a recall.

Headlamps - mine has the clips on but I still get a bit of misting. Some folks go for a silicon bag to absorb the moisture but I've not bothered as its not that bad yet.

The wood thing for the clutch pedal works fine I used a vacuum extension wedged in just be sure to use a towel over the end that digs into the drivers seat so no possibility of any rips!

On the misting headlights I plan to fix this soon by drilling tiny holes underneath into the housing to vent as don't fancy sticking silica bags in with the risk of one opening !

Hope this helps
