Hi

When parking off-road in Scotland I destroyed the bit of plastic that guards the bottom of the engine/sump. It was dragging on the road and eventually I had to remove it.

Can anyone tell me
A. Exactly what it's called
B. How much different it makes to MPG
C. Where I could get a cheap/second hand replacement
D. How much different it makes to anything else (e.g. engine noise reflected off the road)E) If there are better alternatives .
E. How well does it protect against sleeping policemen/road humps.

In fact do I need one at all?

To get clear it's a big bit of slightly floppy plastic and aluminium very roughly about say 18inches wide but 12 inches long??
It sits between the buttom of the engine and the road.

Thanks

J

My car don't have that around 3 years.

Quite a few 8th gens being broken for spares on Ebay:

Its not essential, but probably helps with drag, so maybe better mpg, keeps the engine bay cleaner also.

£235 new from Honda, although I expect Holdcroft would give you 10% off that. Called an Engine under cover.

What MPG are you getting - and how do you think it affected your MPG?

AFAIK all cars since the 90's have had them. IMO it's better to have it than not have it, mainly to reduce spray getting up into the engine compartment.

On reflection as well as MPG issues, I'm also slightly concerned about stonechips causing corrosion....
