Do Induction Kits really work?

Thinking about an induction Kit.
Read up about Air temp v Density etc and other posts on the subject of induction kits in this forum.
My Question is whats the performance difference likely to be between a cone and a panel filter.

I wouls say there is small gains o be made from cone filter but its the sound that attracts most people. Also they will last longer as they can be cleaned
 
TBH the gain between either the cone or the panel are minimal, but the noise you get from an induction kit, be it short, or long ram is amazing!!!
 
All about the noise and depending on te setup and cone they can sound very nice indeed. Dohc vtecs produce an amazing sound when they hit vtec
 
Some could help with the BHP increase, however, it may cause to a lil' drop as well, especially if not fitted properly.
But i guess the engine sound is the biggest plus, and also when you open the bonnet it looks cool.

I guess the best way to find out about any gains is to do a dyno run before and after...which could be costly??

Oh yeah, on my previous car, installing a CAI (cold air induction) could cause your ecu to flag up a fault, and lil light appearing on your dash.

Not heard of this before dude, do you know why the engine threw a wobbler with it fitted? Did the car have a MAF?
 
it wasnt a big thing, just the EML (engine management light) came up on the dash
reason behind it was that too much cold air was coming in and the ecu is not expecting it, hence flags up a fault
Funnily enough, a short ram cured it, however some guys reported that it still lighted up.

Best thing is to find out from others who have installed induction kit into their Accords,if they have any such issues.
It could be that it was just with certain cars, my previous was a Toyota Celica.

i cannot make the noise/sound comparison as mine came with the kit under the hood. But everyone seems to agree that it makes the engine sound more throatier.
Also u can spend 30quid for a ebay one or a 150 for a big brand. I guess the only difference would be in the name, and very little gains. But each to its own.
If u are spending money on the car, and tuning the engine then obviously u woukd need the more specialise kit. but if u are like the rest of us mortals, u should be ok with a cheap one.
 
It's all down to quality of the filter, the size of the pipe etc.

Better to get something designed for the car with bhp increases in mind, rather than some random tubing from eBay, unless you are just going for noise.

The Typhoon on an ATR is an immense bit of kit, *** dyno says yes.

I'm still trying to find one for under £200 :(
 
I've just bought a 51 plate 1.8 vtec-s saloon, ive been searching everywhere for an induction kit made specifically for this model and the only company that seems to list one is GREEN COTTON at around £90. Has anybody else got any info about where i can source one please? cheers
 
K&N, Green etc, all generally give you a really ***** rubber intake pipe. For example, this is a Green Cotton one on my old Accord (ignore the Spoon) -

All this does is suck in warm air from the engine.

So i bought an aluminium intake pipe for a Prelude and fitted the Green cone on the end -

This was much better, it sat in three cold air feeds (one from the front, one from the side and one underneath) and was shielded somewhat by the battery. Still not perfect though, as it wasn't completely shielded from the engine heat.


Compare this to the K&N Typhoon on my latest Accord -

The filter sits in the wing and sucks in lovely cool air.

You can get cheaper versions of a CAI intake pipe that should fit a 1.8 and then you can fit pretty much any cone filter of your choice.

I had one of the Green Filter kits for a while. Didn't notice any performance difference but the sound was very nice (although got a bit much on long motorway hauls). I'd echo the other sentiments about the kit though, I had two hoses split and one that was always working itself loose.

The biggest danger is that the sound is addictive and you'll find yourself living above 4.5k revs a lot of the time!
 
Shiny did you have a spoon on the engine to prove that it was infact clean enough to eat your dinner off? :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:
 
It was a forum wind up many moons ago where i said i had a Spoon engine fitted to my Accord. I also said that it had the best tune that money could buy.

After a few days of forum excitement and pantie wetting from many members, i posted the spoon picture, following by this picture as evidence that it had the best tune ever -
