Hey Everyone,

Recently bought a 55 plate Accord, 2.4 saloon, loving every moment of it so far. When driving normally it is a very comfortable cruiser, but when you put your foot down, does it go!

Unfortunately, the nav system screen isn't working, it sometimes boots up to the warning message, and then displays the DVD error message. Also the top panel screen where it shows the climate control temperature/time/radio information, intermittently works, sometimes it displays the values, sometimes not.

I contacted Alpine, who will repair it for a fixed fee of £225 'but doesn't include any MAJOR parts'. Anyone know any other places who may be able to repair for cheaper?

Is there a way I can fix this problem my self, for example, could it just be the inside needs cleaning or, maybe try switching the dvd player bit to see if it then works?

Or is there a way to bypass the navigation bit, as I am not too bothered about that, but would like the screen to be fixed to use other functions of it.

Thanks!

DVD error message is usually just the laser in the DVD needed cleaning which is not too difficult to do.

Have a search and you should find a guide on how to do it.

Try this first and then see how things are.

Thanks for the tips.

I'll try cleaning it first, hopefully it is just that. If not I'll try finding a breaking car where I can try the DVD unit first.

Sods law says my top display has started going on a off today so if you find a solution for yours then please let me know!

Hello. This seems to be a common problem. Had the same on my accord 06. The upper display went black. New one in Norway cost 8000 kr. I was lucky on ebay found one for 800. The disc read error disappered after cleaning the lens. Hope you get it right. Know how it is. Want everything to be in order on such a great car.

Reading around several forums it seems the upper display problems could be solder joints on a circuit board breaking up. Will take it apart and have a look soon.

I'll be taking it apart this weekend, when I finally have some spare time!

Hoping it is just cleaning some lens :)

My upper display also blanks out (but rarely), I'll inspect that too.

@Grayedout let me know how it goes!

So I managed to open everything up, however I'm unsure of how to get to the lens? I can get to the internals but not sure where to proceed then?

If anyone can find a guide please link me, I searched but can't seem to find anything

Purchased a USB Grom audio kit off Amazon, works great and the sound quality is really good. Will have another go at trying to clean the DVD lens, just been so busy!

But I can only seem to get it to work on an iPhone, not an Android/Samsung S9+..

My Grom has worked flawlessly for a couple of years now, I found when trying to pair you need to be quick when you are entering the new phone, I moved from Android to Apple and couldn't get it to work for a few days but once I did its been trouble free.

I contacted Grom, and they said it was an issue with the new Android update, so can't do much here I guess.

Also I 'fixed' the DVD nav system! The lens was dirty, literally rubbed it with a cotton bud and the bud was black after. Putting it back together was fiddly, I couldn't get the silver mechanism to sit/work properly, it ended up scraping against the top side of the disk, tried lots of different ways to make it work but could not. And then I accidentally dropped the screw and couldn't find it as that thing is so so tiny.

So I inserted the CD, put the black plastic circle on top of it, and then the metal cover lid, I put about 4 layers of velcro with the top layer being the soft side so it could hold/support the black plastic in place without resisting the spinning motion of the disk. And 3 days later, it is still working fine. :p
