Hi guys, 2006 2.0l Accord and the shop here in Italian really just quoted me 400 euro to replace e- brake cable.

Has anybody ever gotten this repaired - if so what’s a realistic price?

Cheers

Part number looks to be 47510SEAE03 - around 40 euros from Japan. Also available aftermarket places from the usual online sites like Autodoc for similar/cheaper price.

I guess that will leave €360 labour which is a lot - I found a video of the process and it doesn't look too bad
- probably a DIY job if you are feeling confident and have axle stands to lift the car

I think maybe the prices is to account for anything else that's broken/rusty that could go wrong? It's not the most totally ridiculous quote i've seen all day but they are quoting you the price for a day's work, i'd say

I've not had a car fixed at a garage for quite some time as prefer to do jobs myself (for better or worse) so i'm not really sure what the going rate is for labour these days, especially not in italy! I'd say an experience mechanic would be able to do that job in less than 2 hours ... €200 labour + parts?

Thanks for the feedback. I don’t have jack stands as I’m traveling around Italy/europe otherwise I would jack it up and have fun.

My Accord is an automatic, so e-brake not as important compared to a manual car.. but this is me rationalizing why not to spend 400e, especially considering parts are not that expensive.

I saw the video and you’re right, looks straightforward probably two hours give or take.

Tried adjusting cables but they’re too stretched at this point.

What to do, what to do. I’m on a long road trip and won’t be home for many months.

Suppose just ignore it and not use e brake ehhh? 400e hmmm I don’t know

For an auto, i'd probably just put it in park for now and fix it when you're home. A lot of people don't even bother to use the handbrake on autos!
