Hi
I've just bought my brothers accord type R which he had since new. its mint condition but the engine management light is on, he said he had it checked and it was insufficent flow EGR Valve. The car has done 133k
So today i removed it the EGR valve and took the EGR passage plate off. Every hole was blocked on the inlet so i unblocked using a screw driver and hoover. I then sprayed carb cleaner down each one, cleaned the plate and reinstalled.
I then started on the EGR valve. I hadnt a pressure tool to push the valve out so used a screw driver to wedge it out and got alot of ***** out.
I then reinstalled with new egr gasket. I disconnected the batter for 2 mins so it would reset ecu.
I started the car and whollaa no engine managment light. I drove up the road and it stuttered a bit and then the managment light came on again at just over 4000 rpm. it continued to stutter especially aroung 5000 rpm. I kept driving and hit the vtec at 5900 rpm a few times and then it was fine.im sure it feels more responsive than before.
I then thought maybe its blown all the remaining ***** through now so i disconnect battery again and reset the ecu hoping this time it wouldnt have any problems.
I reconnected drove up the road and although it felt fine the management light came on again when i hit 4000 rpm.
My questions are:
Do you think i havent cleaned the egr valve enough? i noticed 4 small torq screws on the valve plate(bottom of the egr valve. you can split the valve from the top of the egr valve. should i undo these screws and clean inside properly?
Also looking on here they talk about a vacuum pipe. Im sure mines doesnt have on or if it does i didnt connect it. It just had a electric cable plugged into the top of it.

Any help would be appreciated as im stumpped now and want to know if its worth me taking the egr valve off again and redoing it.

Thanks

It could be possible that once cleaned some carbon build up could have blocked the ports up again just have acre check under the plate

Hi
Thanks for the reply
Do you mean the EGR passage plate or under the egr valve or just do them all again?

Yeah the one ontop if the inlet manifold with the 4 holes under it
ok i will check them tomorrow
Thanks for the info
Should i spray some more carb cleaner down the holes? i just dont want to damage the inlet/engine.
