Hi guys,

Ok i didn't want to start a new topic on this but just wanted some opinions.....I'm about to have the Eibach pro-kit fitted and the garage said they could do a full alignment at the same time for an extra £100.

Is that a good idea? Surely the springs will settle over a few weeks and put the alignment out again?

Am I better off just having the springs fitted and then taking my car to a Hunter alignment place at a later date?

Advice appreciated - I know there are separate topics on lowering but I can't find anything much about when best to get the alignment done - please don't shout if this has been covered already and I've missed the thread

Thanks
Dave

Speak to Tony at http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/ they can fit the parts and do the geometry set up.

They really are very very good and worth the trip from Surrey to Chesham bucks

Ok thanks will try them.

I've been quoted £150 for fitting by Horizon Motorsport in Reading which seemed to be a good deal, but they don't do alignment in-house - this is obviously not a problem if the springs need bedding in before checking the alignment.

Any idea how much I should be paying for alignment?

I had a hunter check last week, free check and £30 for front adjustment.
WIM are known good as are Micheldever (just off the A303 near Andover) if you want a proper full checkup done, give them a ring and ask how much for a full 4 wheel laser alignment after new springs being fitted, they'll give you the best advice.

WIM charge £70 ph labour so thats £140 to change the springs, the geometry check and adjust would between £50 and £70 depends on whats adjusted.

If your handy with spanners changing springs is pretty easy if you have or can borrow the correct tools.

That sounds reasonable - although I'm amazed the different time it takes garages to do the same job - had a so-called Honda specialist in Surrey quote me £240 just for fitting the springs - apparently only £50 p/h labour cost but I was told the job was 1.1 hours per spring to fit!!!!! I'm no good with spanners but I reckon I could have a good go at it in that time!!

WIM have quoted £140 + VAT but say it could be more than that as the seats and parcel shelf need removing - sounds a bit drastic, is that right?

Am I looking at £70+ just to check alignment even if nothing needs adjusting?

Dave they are just being conservative they should be able to do the job in two hours. The geometry check is FOC but there is no way that after it been done something wont need adjusting somewhere. Tony actually trains others how to use the hunter system and is regarded as a guru in car geometry.

30 min a corner sounds about right ;)

When I did my springs I didn't have to take the seats out. Us yours a 7th gen?

Yep its a 7th gen facelift (57 plate) saloon 2.4 EX.

Sounds like Tony at WIIM is the best bet at least I will know it is in safe hands, and I guess at the end of the day you get what you pay for.............

Will post some pics when its done!

Also try rtec in st albans, they are very good(they fitted my coilover kit and done geometry setup)cant remember the price though, but i would advise trying them bud.

You dont need to take the whole of the rear seats out and none of the parcel shelf. There is only the side bolster at each side to remove which is one bolt only.

So I've had the pro-kit fitted by Wheels In Motion - what do you think?

I was hoping the front would be sat a little lower but it is still miles better than it was before!

I had the laser alignment done but obviously couldn't have the camber adjusted - the rears are out of tolerance but I don't know how much this will matter in terms of tyre wear, I guess I'll just have to keep an eye on it. The left was -2.29 and the right was -1.57.

I have to say I was a bit miffed to shell out £95 on a 15 minute alignment so not sure it was worth bothering with!!

By the way - anyone know what these wheels are I've got? I'm thinking of chaning them for some smoked storm second hand ones which are advertised on here at the moment - what do you reckon - will it be better or worse???!!

Looks lovely Dave much better ride height :)

£95 for a geometry adjustment is more than I paid at WIM it must be inflation  but you get what you pay for and not bothering to have it done would have been a big mistake.

Still it looks very nice and the front should drop further over time.
