Engine management light / limp home

Hello!

Was driving normally when suddenly the car decided to turn into Blackpool illuminations - EML on, VSA light on, car immediately goes into limp home mode (not above 20mph), sounded a bit funny as well.

Got home, and restarted the car, EML on from the start, no funny noises, no VSA light anymore. I'm reluctant to take it out for a spin to see if it goes above 20!

Any ideas? Taking it to HH Is out of the question but there's a garage about 50 yds from my house which probably have a reader....

VSA could be down to wheel speed sensor or traction malfunctioning if the engine was misfiring badly.. but get it on a reader and take the guesswork out of it.
