Changed my fuel filter this morning and it was all fine.
then when i turn the eninge on this evenning its struggled as if the battery is dead. but its definately not the batt.
my engine management light then came on. it drives no different before the filter change.

what possible have gone wrong?

Tricky without the code - plug of air?

Alan double check all the connection are sound on the FF this would be my 1st thing to look for.

Is there a way of reading the code my self?
Will disconnecting the battery clear the code?

Brett- I've double checked every connection and made sure everything
Is put back the way it should be.

Looks like I'll have to take it to the dealers.
Tried to save some money by DIY but now :(

A code reader will pay for itself the firs time you use it.

Perhaps you have damaged an electrical connection or sensor/sensor wire?

Sorry to hear this Alan.

How do you know it's not the battery?

The car starts fine and I don't think the battery will cause the
EML to come on.

Will disconnecting the battery clear the code? If it does I'll see if it
Comes back on.

After I changed my fuel filter my dash lit up like a christmas tree I checked everything and it still did it. I ended up going for a drive down the bypass and gave it a bootfull when I got home turned it off and started it back up and all warning lights had gone out and its been fine since.

Odd...if it was okay this morning but not okay now I just wonder if something might have worked loose on the filter setup in the meantime.

Adam from Holdcroft did say running problems can sometimes happen from this job.

Dealer is one option.

Or you could maybe try David's boot treatment first, & failing that get the unit back out and triple check everything - presumably that's what the dealer will do.

It's a pain I know but sometimes this happens - I'm having to redo my valve clearances (got halfway through tonight) after I did them wrong last weekend

Well it's either coincidence or it's something to do with the filter change.

How long did it struggle for ?

Did you do any other work on the car, where you could have knocked anything ?

Can you smell any petrol within the cabin?

See how it is tomorrow, if still doing it, retrace all your steps on the filter replacement.

If anything like the diesel the mil light will disappear after a few starts if there is no longer a problem.

Sitting in the waiting area at HH now, did a scan and it came
Up as the fuel system may have a blockage, so they're taking the
Fuel filter housing out to check everything. The service guy did mention
That it's quite usual to have this prob after FF change. Fingers crossed
It's an easy fix.

your in the best place Alan.
by the way any updates yet

Hi Brett car is now sorted, I must say first class service at HH!
Now back to the problem, it turns out that when I fitted the fuel regulator
Back into the filter; I've pushed up he metal tab/connector where the regulator goes and bent it
Causing a slight blockage . But they've sorted it and its all fine now.
Lee at parts even gave me some freebies!
Overall I'm very happy with how I was treated.

good result Alan glad it was an easy fix

The service guy mentioned to me the scanner is showing the car running
Lean when the engine light is on, did about 65 miles with the light on.
I'm worried if there's any damage done to the engine?

Doubt it, it's oil that lubricates the cylinders, not petrol.

Is say you be fine, maybe a little sootier than your usual refined tastes
