Engine Whine

Evening All,

I have a facelift saloon which is approaching the 200k milestone, over the past few days especially if its cold and wet its started to make a loud whine. Here is a video of the problem: http://sendvid.com/mcnt8p9m

I have read on other posts that it could be the long pulley needs replacing with the new shorter one. But I wasn't sure if this is the same issue as the ones discussed. Would I need to change the alternator as well? Battery isn't loosing any charge and the noise has only just started to happen.

Try removing the belt and see if the noise goes away, from your vid it does not sound bad.

Apologies for my ignorance, do you mean to replace it or take it off, start it and see what happens?

Your right it's not too bad it's just started, but if it will lead to an alternator change I'd rather nip it in the bud!

Take it off, and if the noise goes away then get a short belt and a see if that helps, but maybe you will already have done the alternator as well.

Ok thanks will try and have a look this weekend, need to replace my coolant tank first!
