I had exhaust fumes coming into the cabin last year on my '09 Honda Accord 2.2D EX Auto diesel (175k mls) and it turned out the EGR pipe was cracked, so i had it replaced which fixed the issue.
Today, the engine sounded a bit 'tappetty', and i could see smoke coming out of bonnet side from engine, and could smell exhaust fumes in cabin.
I'm not sure if it's EGR this time, as after taking off the plastic head cover, i can see smoke seems to be coming out of the area around the rhs glow plug.
Also, the other glow plug areas are dry, but that one looks like there is oil around it.
I would have thought if that was leaking, i would smell fuel though, and not the exhaust/sooty smell that is there.

Anyone have any ideas, or had a similar issue before?

Most likely a leaking injector (lift off your plastic engine cover to check) or the egr pipe hasn’t been properly fitted on the egr side (bulkhead side of the engine bay)

I'll have honda take a look at it tomorrow morning, as fumes in cabin is dangerous.
Sometimes it is hard to pinpoint leak, as fumes could be finding some easy path to escape.
Just checked my invoices, and see it was 2yrs ago that honda did egr pipe replacement, at a cost of 430eu. :-{
i could do w/o another big bill.
Car flew through it's NCT/MOT last week, w/o any issue.

What you’ve circled is injector number 4.

Dealer service dept was out the door with work. Cars waiting 2wks to be looked at.
Left car with them and now I don’t know when it will be looked at or how much it will cost to fix. I hope it’s a quick inexpensive repair.

As per Fahad's reply it does look like the injector seal, though on the 7th generation the engine is under a cover which masks the sound but not the fumes.

Your video has been deleted but this is the link to the thread on replacing the copper washer from the earlier model,

it can be done with care in about an hour, but make that two including ordering the part and soaking the top end in coke the night before.

This is an 8th gen

Thx for replies. Honda dealer confirmed it was injector seal and are replacing it today. They provided a quote of €280 for parts and labour

The part is only a few cents, that cost is the labour and frankly excessive even for a Honda dealer

I read on a post that working with injectors can be tricky to not damage them and specialist tools may need to be used.
Amazing how a little seal can make the engine sound look and smell like it’s a goner.
It’s purring along now (as much as a diesel can purr)

No not really and actually the injectors tend to come out a bit easier on the 8th gens
