hi guys.. how much of the internals for a F20 is similar to the F18.... im looking to increase performance to my 1.8 sport, but everything always comes up for the F20 F23, but nothing for the F18.... does anyone know my limit for a F18 engine performance upgrade... searching online doesnt seem to help much, most seems to head to the US for knowledge about engine upgrades... can anyone help me out please...

Im having the same problem fella ive been asking around on here some say they have tuned them then others say its not possile an youve just got to swop engines the only thing ive found you can do is full stainless and an air filter but surely this day and age theres something

ive got the green cotton induction, working on the full stainless next.. maybe be able to get a JDM ECU and have it chipped.... thats about as far as i can get aswell.. im not sure about the skunk 2 inlet manifold..

if the exhaust manifold from a F20 can fit a F18.. would it be the same for the inlet manifold, what about a stage 3 clutch?? or camm upgrades.....so many questions n the answers cant be found lol...

In short stuff can be done! But youll find that no places actually do the stuff for the 1.8.. So alot of it would be custom work which would cost thousands.. Is it really worth it? Nope lol

Anything is possible, but you need to realise that SOHC VTECs are primarily a economy engine and are not made for performance.

The best thing to do with the 6G is to fit a H22. For around £800, you could have an instant 215hp and an engibe that responds very well to mods.

For all the money it cost me to fit and upgrade my H22A7, the best I could of done to the F20B6 would of been turbocharge it, and even then it would not of been as powerful as the H22 unless I ran dangerous amounts of boost.

Not to sound rude, but either accept the 1.8 for the slow family car that it is, or do the H22 swap.

i was gonna be doing a H22 turbo rebuild or the 3:0 v6 from the coupe turbo charged or supercharge it aswell, but im looking at getting onto the track instead off spending my money on the rebuild.. looking at the 07 shape civic maybe and will get the 2.4 from the accord n keep it N/A.....

i was just looking at trying to get this 1.8 to about 180 bhp or something to increase its acceleration. i had a freindly off the road drag race with my brother inlaw, deal was i dont use my vtec, n his 1.4 escort only just beat me, id like more acceleration, n think its shocking u cant get any aftermarket for the F18, plenty off other models have upgrades for a 1.8 or less. so why not this model? it cant be that hard to make aftermarket parts can it!!!!!!

180hp out of an F18 would only be possible with a turbo, and even then it would be a tall order and risky on standard internals.

A V6 would be a good albeit trickier swap, but you will have to source an Acura gearbox and other parts from the USA if you wanted to keep it as a manual.

Tbh, I can't recommend the H22 swap enough. Cheap, 200bhp+ straight out the box, and you can have it in and running within 1-2 days if you have everything prepared and ready to drop in.

its not the US accord coupe. theres a UK coupe with a 3:0 v6 engine..

just have to sort out the manual gearbox. most come with an auto gearbox.. standard BHP is 200, theres allot off give for a tune up... plus u get the V6 roar with Vtec aswell, thats gotta some noise it will produce lol..

but its all a none starter tho.. id rather put 5k into a 2.4 Vtec Civic track car...
No you misunderstood me. I know it was an Auto only, but you can swap in a manual gearbox from an Acura TL/CL-S but this can only be bought from the USA.

I actually used to own a V6 coupe with a manual swap. You can find more info on it here. It was a great car and I really miss it, but unfortunately it was crushed against a motorway barrier by a drunk lorry driver. I still have the drivetrain and ancillarys at work which I managed to save, although the shafts and suspension was destroyed. :(

Hiya Josh, sorry for the delay bud. The swap was done using pretty much all Acura CL-S parts from the US. From the US, I had a 6-speed transmission, Clutch Kit & Flywheel and Acura CL-S shifter & linkages shipped over. After that, I was able to get most parts from the UK (Where I lived at the time) so from then on I had to have custom mounts made, and was able to use the pedal box (including clutch pedal and hydraulics including slave/master cylinder) from a F20B6 6G I found in a breakers yard. I also used part of a 6G loom and used independent management as an easier way of essentially cutting out the automatic loom (If you fail to use the module, you lose VTEC, reverse lights, CEL is constant, no clocks etc etc.) and allowing me the option to set an individual map as I was planning to supercharge the V6 not long after doing the swap. Finally, I had to get hold of a starter motor from the K24 Accord 7G as the auto one was very different. Obviously there were lots of other little bits and bobs required (My transmission came from the US fine but had no reverse switch, release bearing or clutch fork. Major PITA to find!) but that's pretty much the jist of it. All other things like hubs, shafts etc were actually a direct fit into the 6-speed manual.

It was quite costly with parts and shipping alone costing over £2k, and that was with saving shipping cost by having my parts shipped over with a friends recent car purchase he was having shipped over from Colorado. All in all including a few one off pieces needing to be made, it cost knocking on £3.5k with about 3-4 months being taken for it. Granted, I could of probably done it cheaper if I didn't go for independent management and time if all the parts arrived correctly, but hey ho that's life! After the swap though...Wow what a car! It was immense fun and so FAST. The ratios were nice and tight and couple that with the immense torque and decent power (RR'ed at 241hp @ crank) made it much faster than an ATR in a straight line as it was so responsive seeing as there was no where near as much "transmission loss" with the manual compared to the auto. In the bends it was a little nose heavy, but the CL-S transmission has an LSD and my V6 had a few handling upgrades, so it wasn't too bad actually. Unfortunately, I only had the car on the road for about 10 months until it was wrecked, which is a shame as it was probably the only manual swapped V6 in the UK and I had some major plans for it.

I've moved on now and my H22'd 6G is a much better car all round really, but I can't help but miss the beautiful V6 warble as I wafted around in heated seat luxury. :D

So the best thing to do is a h22 swop then hmmm will have a look around for one i think i love my accord how it handles i just want some power i was havin a bit if fun a bit back my friend has a new shape civic type r and he couldnt shake me off on the corners but on the straights he was gone a h22 swop would guve him a shock i think lol

H22a is the way to go, could probably get an engine and gearbox for about a grand.

Trying to extract just 15bhp over stock out of the f18b2 would cost more than that, full stainless exhaust plus header would cost about 6-700,then you would need intake manifold, induction, cams, new ecu.

Add that all up and you could have bought 2 H22a engines

Ive been looking around can get engine and all the other stuff you need for a straight drop in for just over £2000 and the engine has about 70,000 on it

That's not too bad considering it's about 2 - 2 1/2 days labour and that's a very low mileage engine.

Yeah got it wrong too its 60,000 so the price sounds even better
Have you considered buying a Accord Type R donor car? You can pick up a good condition one for around 2k, and at least you also get the ATR suspension, interior etc etc.

Thats the route took anyway, and at least you'll have everything needed to do the swap.

Donor car?? I was just going to swop the engine and the other bits i need and keep everything else the same wont stuck out as much with the scrouts where i live and they cant see whats under the bonnet haha
