HI, Ive not been on for a while but glad to be back, my 2006 60k ictdi estate has developed a fault, The eml is on & after reading the only code stored p1401, I stripped and cleaned the EGR which i have to say wasnt too badly carboned up.
Nothing has changed following this, the car still has the eml light on, I can cancel this and the car will tickover for about 30secs before you hear the engine tone drop back into limp mode and the eml comes back on, also checked for pipes off/loose plugs etc.... nothing, Any ***istance much appreciated Regards Cairn15

Have a look hear ;)

Hello, Ive checked for pipes off, and cant find anything thats not connected, is the failure of an EGR a common problem with accords?, only thing i would say is the car needs is a damn good service, but i wouldnt expect changing oil/filters etc to put out a EGR fault?, I have the genuine parts fuel/oil filters correct oil etc which i will do soon but are there any other parts that could be restricting the exhaust gas flow to the EGR that I may require a good clean?, any ***istance much appreciated, Thanks Cairn15

Double, double check vac lines for leaks, such as splits, perishing and holes, could also be the diaphragm on the EGR although would be a bit surprised at that mileage. Another suspect would be the EGR control solenoid there are two identical solenoids on the right of the engine, near the airbox one goes to the turbo and one goes to the EGR, there are two vac lines connected to each. Also check the electrical connection on the nearest solenoid.

When you cleaned the EGR did you check the valve opened and shut ok, i.e no mechanical issues preventing physical operation.?

Have you had any other work done on the car recently?

HI CJM, Thanks very much for the tips on my recent EGR P1401 fault code senario.

This may ***ist others in that after i checked the motorised valve operation which was clean & working fine, I removed the stainless link pipe & the butterfly valve to expose (1) The stainless link pipe was down to 50% flow, choked with carbonised goo and (2) The manifold that the link pipe attaches to was also very heavily carboned up as it took about 2hrs with copper pipe/old tooth brush & petrol soaked rag to thoroughly clean.

I cancelled fault code with my obd reader and Took car out for a blast..................... Result fault code gone and no EML.
