Hi Guys,

i am new to forum so i am posting this with great hopes.

Honda Accord 2006
Mileage: 91K
Ex-iCTDI 2.2

My rear foglight seems to stop working, albeit bulb is not fused
Hazard switch seems to have no illumination when headlights are turned on
due to high motorway and country side roads car front bonnet has developed lots of tinny chips and same on windscreen....What should i do, should i go for paint job on front of my car? Any recommendations

Feel slight play in my steering, i.e when i accelerate i feel the play. (Wishbones are new and bushes are in good)

I feel my car engine is consuming oil. When serviced car i put 6l oil which took it to top notch of dipstick. Now its slightly 3-4mm lower then top notch.

Please help. Car has full service history.

Many Thanks

The paint on Hondas is poor imo. I have the same car as you and everytime I look at it it has new scratches and chips. I think your steering play is possibly lower Control arm bushes(compliance bush) or drop links. Not sure about oil consumption these diesels don't seem to burn any mine never moves between services.

Thanks Ryan .....

What you recommend about paint then, a paint job? or should i keep original paint... Have intentions to sell in 1 yr or 2. i changed the lower steering arm completely might be its drop links.

Cheers

Check the front drive shafts for any play, drive shafts are a common weak point on the diesels. Although this would feel more of avibration under acceleration.
Also check your track rod ends.

Your hazard light switch probably needs it internal light bulbs changing - check lings.com for the part numbers and bulb type.

Are you using the correct oil grade? 0w/30?
Honda diesels aren't known to consume oil normally. Might be worth getting a garage to check this out? As the car accelerate well and drive normally?

Agreed with chew, the paint is very thin on Honda's and its is known issue. I had a massive paint chip occurred on the motorway on the bonnet. Not happy but there not much you can do unless you get a bonnet cover to protect the hood if you do lots of motorway miles.

Example
Ebay item number: 271192974804

(pasting links doesn't seem to work for me)
.
if you still wanted to get a respray try "bowron motorcare" based in bovingdon hemel Hempstead
They resprayed my Honda Prelude rear bumper and did an excellent job. They are not cheap though but very high standard workmanship

I've given up on my paint work as I don't think my car is worth enough money to warrant a spray job, I'm just going to run it till it costs to much for a big repair. I don't think you will get your investment back on a spray job if you are planning to sell it. Not sure about steering issue then. I was thinking that because my steering is similar and my bushes need doing soon especially the left side.

Thanks Alex and Ryan for advise. Sometimes i do feel liberation more than usual under my accelerator when i press gas. Do you think its gonna be right hand side shaft.

With regards to oil i am using 0w/30 and i used it first time as in past honda used 5w in every service. Do you reckon the volume used for both oils can be different dues to viscosity and density ?

0w-30 and 5w-30 are barely different in viscosity (unless you park overnight in the arctic circle) or density... either are fine for use in the UK. So that wouldn't explain the dipstick reading.

Mine goes from max to min between oil changes, so consumes (no leaks) around 1L in 8000 miles.

We had a pnuemonic in the job W.O.T, every time you took over a vehicle, WATER! OIL! TYRES!, of course not nessecary with a privately owned vehicle but still good practice say once a week??

I stick by W.O.T too on a weekly basis, always better to be on the safe side and as they say especially if going on long journeys and as the 7 P's go i.e Proper prior planning prevents **** poor performance! LOL
Cheers Pete

The only way you will be sure if the driveshaft is causing the vibration is to get it up on a lift and have a feel of the drive shaft by moving it side to side. Any movement there will indicate a knackered shaft
To be honest I reckon its a buckled wheel or imbalanced wheels

Its odd Alex, i think i should check with service station for play in price shafts. Actually i have recently spend serious money on my accord service and etc. Don't wana take any bigger cost. However having said that i use car daily for my work which is must....
