Bought an Accord last week.
Wheels were in a bit of a sorry state so I decided to have a bash at repainting them myself. Started off with 1 to see if it was a smart move.

Result so far:

First one came out ok so I've got the first coat on 2 more and I'll get the last one once they're done. Would have done the other 3 at once but can only find 1 axle stand :(

Anyways, the car:

1.8 saloon
1999 (V reg)
86k
12 months MOT
3 months tax
Sicilian red

What would be the going rate for a car of this standing?

Bodywork needs a refresh so I'm wondering if it's worth colour-coding the side skirts and strips as well as wing mirrors?

p.s. sorry about the blue tint to the photos. They were painted in an old greenhouse that I just wrapped in tarpaulin. Will get some decent pictures up once they're back on the car.

Looking good. Like the idea of a home-made spray booth too!

Nice job;)

That looks really good bro. Nice job and it shows you prepped it well.
How many coats of laquer have you put on?
Also what paint did you use?

Nice job fella and its always good to do things like this yourself :)

Nice job matey ;)

It was the guy at the local auto-shop. He had carplan wheel paint in stock but told me not to get it and ordered different stuff in for me. He said it was the trade equivalent of Simoniz 5 wheel silver paint. Got 3 x 500ml cans of that and 3 cans of regular lacquer for £21 so can't complain. About 4-5 coats of the silver and 3-4 coats of the lacquer followed by a polish with turtlewax.

That's 3 wheels done and only on 2nd can of paint and still on 1st can of lacquer. Leaving these 2 wheels to dry overnight, give it some tyre paint and straight on the car in the morning then just 1 left to do tomorrow.

One of the wheels is particularly bad to the point where I think sanding has been useless. I think it needs material adding which is where I think I'll draw the line. No idea where to start in that instance. Still looks miles better than it was but still fairly obvious that it's been kerbed.

For those that have read this far, I was in the local scrappies today and noticed they had same model of accord (in silver) but with boot spoiler. Would it be worth getting said spoiler and painting Sicilian red? Is there such a thing?

very nice job, but... is your car lifted when taking photo? space between tyre and fender look too big

On another note, has anyone put a pc into their car? Was toying with this. Even to the stage of taking out console and lining things up:

Some of the Type-V Accords have the stereo and heating controls mounted in that space so that a touch screen sat nav can sit in the dash. I'd be tempted to copy that set up as it'd be more convenient to use - you'd just need to find the bracket from a Type-V for housing the stereo and heating controls. I had a look on Ling's Honda a while back and seem to remember it being listed, so might be worth a look

your probably better off trying to run a small screen then connecting that to a PC. Not sure what connector you will need though. However a mighty mod though, look forward to seeing it done if you decide to, no pressure lol

Good job on the refurb mate. For the wheel that needs material added, could you not just use some filler and rub it down? Stick a pic up o the damage and maybe someone could advise you on what todo.

Keep up the good work!

Hi there, I happened to be browsing Youtube the other day and came across a good video on alloy wheels which included advice on what type of filler to use (epoxy chemical metal I think). I don't remember exactly which video it was but if you search "How to refurbish alloy wheels" on Youtube you will find 356 hits to choose from!

I've just refurbished the wheels on my Accord too! I decided to update it slightly by going with the 'Anthracite' wheel paint from Halfords.

I quite like the look... Modern Honda's seem to have darker wheels, so it freshens it up a touch..
