Hi all over the past few weeks ive noticed my car has started using alot more fuel than usual a full tank used to last just over two weeks now a tank is only lasting a week. Just wondering if anyone has had same problem? Ive checked for fuel leaks and theres nothing. Could it be a sensor of some kind??

Might be worth jacking up each wheel to check that you've not got a binding brake (as I had until this morning on my tourer).

I had a sticky caliper the start of this year noticed the car was a bit sluggish with it. But the car aint like that this time just drinking fuel like nobody's business!

How much worse is your MPG? Have you checked your tyre pressures?

I'd still check the brakes as our diesels have enough the power to pull through brake issues. A quick test is to compare brake disc heat, the hotter one has brake issues! Funnily enough, I've also just stripped and painted my rear calipers due to a binding piston caused by corrosion starting in the fluid seal groove.

Not sure how much it's gone up but even when I had the sticky caliper fuel consumption didnt go up this much i would take a ruff guess and say its halfed. I check my tyre pressure regular and all ok.

As above my caliper sticking did nothing to the performance of it at all, only way I knew was consumption went up from about 45mpg around town to 35mpg!! Plus the rear offside wheel I noticed was quite hot after a motorway run if I'd used the brakes hard enough.

I would start by making sure the brakes are good, like the guys say it can make a difference. Check other things like tyre pressure, when was the last time it was serviced?
So many factors can affect fuel consumption, check the state of the air filter as a dirty one can restrict air flow into the engine.

Lastly your driving pattern hasn't changed has it?

Was serviced in February, ordered a completed set of filters from hh last just waiting for them to arrive. Brakes are all good, just been out checking them. Na driving pattern hasn't changed ether. Would a faulty lambda sensor in the exhaust cause fuel consumption to go up?

It could do but you have to get real time readings using the HDS diagnostic tool or something equivalent. You can then get an idea of what the car is actually doing? I wouldn't just replace the sensor without a real diagnostic

My efficiency dropped by 20% when the boost solenoid valve failed. Engine sounded a little rougher, but no obvious symptoms or codes.
