Fuel Pump Solenoid Removal

...then stop worrying!

If it is general wear then it won't suddenly fail, it will just become bad enough to cause a DTC. And then you'll have a better idea about what the problem is and how to fix it.

Ok,thanks for your help.

My eagerly-awaited replacement fuel pressure control actuator turned up today. Screwed it to the pump, pumped the bulb to prime the system (a small amount of diesel had run out of the hole over the last couple of days, so air must have entered), refitted the air filter box, reconnected the battery and....... she's running again. :D B) ;)

So thanks to all for input and advice, but especially Alan (who I should buy a drink, but he'll have to settle for a rep point!) .

Great news, Jon, I really didn't think you'd get the part before Christmas. I'll pour myself a little drink to celebrate the success (and the fact that I've finished work untl the new year! )

Well done lad. Goes to show how poorly geared up most dealerships are these days thanks to computerised configuration.

A whole car could have been broke up due to a solenoid priced similar to a tank of fuel.

Nice to hear, that your car again runing;)

Just to finally wrap this up, I think the key things learnt from this thread should be that a P1059 or a P1057 DTC almost certainly points to a problem with this component (but could also be the wiring from the ECU, albeit unlikely), I think a P0088 would also almost certainly indicate this component, and a P0087 might possibly indicate this component (but could be a few other things as well, such as fuel filter or worn pump).

This has obviously been a rare problem, but hopefully anyone searching TA for help with these DTCs should find this thread and get themselves sorted without too much trouble... it was actually a pretty simple and cheap repair in the end.

EDIT: Bosch part number for the pressure regulator actuator ***embly is 0 928 400 487

...not sure why I couldn't re-edit my previous post?
