Hi im new to this forum
I drive a 2004 icdti accord

Im getn an engine management light ipon cold start and also limp mode until warms up
I have checked all glow plugs with multimeter and all are fine

Im just unaware as to wer will i find the relay ?? Help would be much appreciated

Welcome along Michael i would say your fuel filter needs changing.Have you used a genuine Honda one if not this will be most likely the cause.

Would it not be anything to do with the plugs ???? Wher would i find the glow plug relay just to check it ???
Or would u be sure its the filter as i plugged it in and it showed a glow plug fault?

What code did you get but its mad i no but these cars are very fussy about FF.Have you an after market one fitted ? because normally this will bring up the glow plug light on the dash.

Its the engine light not the glow one ...
Its a modern diognostic it read glow plug circut fault and as iv checkd the plugs it can only be the relay ??? Or could it :)

You still haven't answered my question about the FF ;) Genuine or non

Exactly what diagnostic trouble code are you reading?

It could be the relay, but - as you have a multimeter - why don't you check that voltage is present at the glowplugs pre-startup when cold?

If its the relay but do all the simple things 1st hear is a link.

Ff is nt genuine ....
Would checking it when cold identify the problem
!st step mate get the filter changed for a genuine before you spend any money trust me.We have had 100,s of members with related problems like this and its all down to after market FF

Thanks will be straight onto it asap
But just for future ref were will i find the relay if i do havta go down that road ??
Much appreciate the help:)

The glow plug control unit is to the left of your air box from memory.

I think that the one fella.
Your best bet is look on lings Honda parts and look for the part. This will give you a detailed view of the exact location

I don't think the wrong FF will give you a P1384, if that's the DTC you have. But when you do change it, here's a guide... http://typeaccord.co.uk/forum/topic/118-diy-full-engine-service-on-the-pre-facelift-i-ctdi-accord/ and this is the filter you need... http://www.coxmotorparts.co.uk/genuine-honda-accord-diesel-fuel-filter-0305-p-735.html

I think the best way to check that the relay is working is too check that voltage is actually present on the glowplugs when they need to be working. If not, then it could be a faulty relay (wherever it is).

If the full 12v is getting there, then the relay is OK. Or maybe it's an intermittant problem?

Did you find the relay? I've heard guys say that sometimes it's a bad connection and that pulling the relay out and putting it back in has fixed the problem, but I'm not sure how permanent this 'fix' might be!

You've not told us what error code you have... it might help if we knew. Does the error code come back as soon as you clear it?

Ryt the code is p3184 ... Glow plug circut malfuntion :(

This morning tested the plugs pre start all 12 v so all ok started the car no malfuntion lamp perfect :)
Then went home fr lunch at 1 drove nice and handy till warm no light then put da shoe down 3rd gear and bang malfuntion light and limp mode :) now my new ff wnt be in till 2mara but im struggling ta c how the new ff will fix the prob as its showing glow plug fault ??? So as far as ta my knowledge fhe ff has natn ta do with the glow plugs circut

Then again im nt used of modern diesels nd dyr silly ways :(

See what the car is like with the new FF im confident this will help.

I agree that changing the fuel filter shouldn't put right an apparent glowplug problem (P1384)... but you've checked the glow plugs (for continuity?) and also that the feed to them is available when it should be. Obviously there might be an intermittent fault that's not reared its head when you've been poking around with your multimeter, but odd that the fault happened when you'd not think the glowplugs would be needed? I once questioned the full purpose of glowplugs on another forum, and a seemingly knowledgable member suggested that there's more to glowplugs than simply warming up a hotspot to aid starting, but also that they did also provide feedback to the ECU of engine running conditions, possibly cylinder temperature - I don't know if this is true or not!

Bottom line... if it works OK when the fuel filter has been changed, then we'll all have learnt something. Please do report back and let us know either way.

This might be the case of process of elimination and do the cheapest things 1st.
If the FF don't solve the issue i would change the 4 glow plugs for good measure.

Ryt a new problem but only since ds evening
The feed is not theyre at all
Ordered a control unit so dat will fix dat

Removed the plugs amd tested them with a positive and negative strand of wire
And 2 wer completly shot and 2 wer slow
Bottom line dont be fooled by the multimeter reading as it was showing 12 v all round getting new plugs 2mara will have the car sorted for saturday nd will post up amd inform ye :)

Good stuff keep us posted
