What's new

Guess the problem and repair cost...

Usually people/companies tremble in fear when they hear "trading standards". I hope you get good closure on this too, all the best.

Getting back to your very competent mate now, do you still trust him even though he could not diagnose the driveshaft's as the issue?? Could the Honda garage be pulling a fast one

He's never missed a beat on my other cars over the years... potentially when I told him that the driveshafts were changed last year he didnt even consider them...

We'll see...

I'm guessing that possibly, like you, the dealer didn't realise it was just an estimate either?
If he didnt realise... why did he put it in main text advert of the Autotrader Add - selling it as a job done and positive of the car. His responsibility to check the car matches the advert that he has made...

I too had a similar problem and it turned out to be the bearing on o/side driveshaft. Replaced entire section and had been fine ever since :)

meh. i'm done with drive shafts tbh.

have already written a few encyclopaedias on it by now.

in a nutshell, unless you have a large sum of cash at hand get all the cv joints from the USA, (why get one when you can get a totally new front end replaced for a fraction of the cost), from the top of my head about £400/500 should do the complete set., if you just need inner its about 200-300.

since i was planning on keeping my car (still got it and going like a charm) i got the inner and outer boot joints ordered.

Interestingly he email me today asking how we can resolve this and that he would offer me a partial refund to allow me to replace the driveshafts... I'm sure the letter sent using the consumer Direct website re. legal action has shown him my intent so hopefully I can resolve this with a refund which will get the driveshafts replaced... Likely to send it to the garage around the corner from me who are a bit better equipped to deal with the driveshaft replacement.

Hopefully resolved but I'll keep everyone posted...

Refund of £650 to replace the two driveshafts about to be completed... I am glad he saw sense and realised that the car wasnt as he had advertised and he has taken responsbility.

All sorted by the end of the week.

Ok,

Got the money off the garage that sold me the car - put it into my garage - they put it onto the ramp and could see the wheel wobble on the passenger side.

They replaced the inner CV joint as they couldnt source a driveshaft... its so frustrating but it had minimal impact - the wobble has softened but it is still there.

They said they couldnt source a driveshaft from their suppliers and my cousin who has a garage in the north east is struggling. Any solutions for sourcing drive shafts?

No original 17 alloys with buidget tyres. I have swapped the tyres around and rebalanced them. That was the first thing I did.
