Hi
looking at changing my headlight bulbs. Want a little brighter light without going down the hid route
was thinking osram nightbreakers or philips extreme

had any one used these on the projection system and how do the perform or do you have any recommendations for a better than standard bulb

Got night breakers and can't tell any difference between them and basic bulbs. HID is the only way to see a proper difference.

thanks for the reply, i just thought with HID's you had to have auto light level for the MOT
if not maybe HID is the way forward

All depends on the mot tester. Some will let them pass others won't. Easy enough to just change the bulbs back round come mot time anyway
 
I have used Philips extreme +130 lamps for dip & main beam and was very impressed with them but they are not a patch on the 55w hids i have fitted since! I could never go back to a standard
halogen lamp again.

get slim digital 55w ballasts but make sure they're quality kits as cheap slim kits are rubbish. Slims will also fit neatly in the light housing. We have a seller on the forum
 
As a heads up i found after i had fitted mine i had a 2ft wide shadow coming from each headlamp and after doing a bit of research found out it was quite common with aftermarket hid lamps because the electrode was at the top of the lamp. I filed down the 2 nodules on the lamp base itself and installed them upside down and hey presto shadow gone and there is still a perfect beam pattern with a sharp cut off.

What life are the bulbs and are they easy to buy spares
Quick start or normal
Think I'm right saying no canbus on 2006 accords

I have 55w haven't tried the 35w so cant comment on them spare lamps are readily available from ebay or Horizon. I have only had mine fitted a couple of months ago so cant comment on lamp life either. Mine aren't fast start it takes about 30 seconds for them to get to full brightness but i can live with that.
 
sorry my earlier post says to get 55w but was meant to read 35w. 35w is tried and tested imo

Seems to be a bit of a grey area but our Accords do have projector headlamps and not a standard headlamp reflector (ie where you can actually see the lamp). As far as i know you have to have either self leveling suspension or headlamp washers or both! Its the same when it comes to mots i think it is pretty much down to the mot tester as to wether or not he or she passes the vehicle.
Im sure there will be people on here who are much better informed than me and give an accurate answer.
 
Good point.

I wouldn't mind a HID upgrade but not if I can't get the car through an MOT.
 
As I mentioned today in a different but similar thread, HID headlight conversions are NOT an MOT fail...

For MOT rules with regards to HID kits, it is actually not possible to fail a car for a HID upgrade as it states that both self levelling system must be working and headlamp wash must be working IF FITTED. If they're not installed then they can't fail it.

The tester may fail for not emitting a white light from the front but this is down to the colour output of the light so as long as you don't go too blue then this shouldn't be an issue.

This is taken from the MOT manual for anyone who may have issues with MOT fail and HID kits.

Section 1.7 - Headlamps.
"Where HID or LED dipped beam headlamps are fitted, switch on the headlamps and check the operation of any headlamp levelling and cleaning devices fitted."

Information
Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted with headlamp washers and a suspension or headlamp self levelling system.
Where such systems are fitted, they must work; however, it is accepted that it may not be possible to readily determine the functioning of self levelling systems.
In such cases, the benefit of the doubt must be given. Headlamp washers may work in conjunction with the windscreen washers (when the dipped beam headlamps are switched on) or by a separate switch.
HID lamps may be identified by: · taking a few seconds to reach full intensity · having a bluish tinge to the light · having an igniter module/inverter behind the headlamp · having ‘DCR’ marked on the headlamp lens.

hello guys. just to be sure. I have facelifted Accord with headlamps washers. I would like to install this 3rd generation LED kit form horizons (2500lumens). http://www.horizonleds.co.uk/exterior-leds/cree-led-headlights/h1-led-headlights-headlamps/h1-philips-lumileds-luxeon-led-headlight-kit
So it is not a MOT fail when I use it. Only thing is that my washers should work just because I have it as a original equipment. Am I right ?
And also if it is not MOT fail then what about police checks ?
