Hi,

Just an annoying thing but my headlight bulbs and sidelight bulbs seem to blow quite easily and I am fed up with having to change them every few weeks. Any tips as to what is going on here?
Thanks.

Hi, no...the last ones were Halfords, hmm. By genuine Honda which ones do you mean? Bought from a Honda dealer?

I do yes.

The 7th Gen Accord doesn't like non genuine bulbs. The bonus is that the Honda ones are cheaper than Halfords.

Driving on rough roads kill them too.
When I used to have a bumpy commute, my old car used to go through a set every winter.
Switched jobs and didn't blow a bulb in 2 years.

Yes Matt, London roads are bumpy as hell, that's for sure. I have been through four sets of headlights/sidelights since March!!! Having said that I have done over 25,000 miles too, argh.

Took me ages to put my first set of dip beam H1 bulbs in my old Honda Accord 7 years ago. I dropped a bulb inside the unit and had to get a kids magnet and tape it to a bit of thin wire to retrieve it. I also went down the route of putting in cheap bulbs too but they soon blew and yeah the Honda ones last the longest. I could probably do it blindfolded now which is more or less what you have to do on the Accord.

No need to buy genuine Honda bulbs.

Main bulb manufacturers are Philips or Osram or GE. These guys usually supply the main dealers and re-brand them as Honda.

If you want longer lasting bulbs you can purchase Osram ultra life bulbs (3x the life of normal bulbs) or philips long life bulbs.

You can buy heavy duty bulbs from halfords which have reinforced filaments to provide protections against rough roads etc.

The key is installing the bulbs without touching the glass of the bulbs as the chemicals transferred to the glass from your fingers can reduce the life of the bulbs dramatically.
Also the bulbs you may have bought from halfords may have been thrown around bit on the shop and then placed on the shelf. Bulb filament may have already been knocked about abit thus reducing its life.

Hope it helps
