Chaps, whilst theres loads of HID chat on here Ive failed to identify a specific kit that fits and works well in a 2006 Sport tourer with standard projector lenses.

Ive recently fitted OSRAM nightbreakers which are disappointing in this setup (been on an MOT rig too) although they were stunning in my old SAAB.

Would anyone be happy to recommend a kit and source based on your own recent experience of HID into a Tourer?

From what I can gleam a 4300K bulb and perhaps a 55w setup would be good - ***uming a HID 55w bulb draws the same current as a filament bulb?

Thanks once again

paul

I think even 55W draws less than standard filament bulbs? Only when 'firing up' do they draw lots of power (so turn off auto-lights, only turn them on once the engine's running).

I'm no help with which kit to get though sorry.

I would recommend 35w ballast and your bulb choice, I've used and recommended this ebay shop for hids

http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/manufactory88/?_trksid=p4340.l2559

They work out around £30 for standard size ballast, had a few kits from them and one faulty ballast replaced very quickly, 2+ years no probs.

Hi Paul.
This topic has been covered many times.

please see my post here : http://typeaccord.co.uk/forum/topic/7982-hids/page__view__findpost__p__89559
which shows the light output of the 35w kit.

also i am currently running 35w 4300k bulbs and slimline ballasts, but i am awaiting a 55w 4300k set through the post any day. When i get the new kit i will do an install over a weekend and take comparison shots (35w in one dome, 55w in the other).
If you can hold on for a few days before purchasing it may help give you an idea of what to expect from either kit. ;)

Guys... would it be an idea to do a 'Which HID kit to buy / How to install guide' ? and make it a sticky at the top of the forum ?
We are getting a lot more people wanting to do this mod so it could be a good baseline read for them

theres a lot of kits for sale in that shop mate ,,, which ones are the ones to get ?? please be blunt if needed !!

Ex right up Neal I'm still waiting for good weather to tackle my 8th gen if possible

I will be blunt ;)

you need:

Bulb type = H1
Colour bulb = 4300k or 5000k or 6000k.
Ballast type = Slim is best now..

so .... something like this :) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/35W-HID-H1-4300K-BULBS-2X-SLIM-BALLAST-CONVERSION-FULL-KIT-UK-Local-Shipping-/120782827556?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c1f37b024

Adam what are the ones in mine? 5000K or 6000K?
I'm thinking I might get some 4300K H3s now for the fogs - not that I ever use them, just heading towards my total filament removal program! :D

Trev yours are 5000k :)

how are you finding them by the way ?
I hope your finding it a massive improvement over stock.

Definitely brighter, just don't like the adjustment, I'm sure the driver side is pointing too far left, but my main beam is OK and the adjuster knob moves the whole ***embly - thinking I might ask the garage to check the settings on their MOT rig to be sure. Overall they're awesome though, would recommend them.
