As above i recently put hids in my dipped beams and since then my battery seems to die every now and then if i havent used the car in say 10 hours, the battery itself is getting pretty old i suppose but was just wondering if the hids would be draining it more than usual? I took the ground wire that is normally used on the h1s ( connected to unit) and plugged the negtive hid wire straight onto it ( no longer on the chassic) is this correct as iv never done h1s before

Also will is it possible a dud battery would lower mpg due to alternator over run?

I would say you're hids are fine just replace your battery

batterys will always suffer at this time of the year due to the cold.

replace battery :)

Hids used the same, like normal bulbs.

Could there be an earth leak on the ballasts?

like the others have said, it's the cold that's killing your weak battery. Ballasts are only powered when you switch your lights on. Also, unless they are the liltte more unusual types i.e 55W they're probably the 35W type so using less power when switched on that your original halogens...

To answer your second question, yes in theory, you alternator would be trying to top up your battery more than normal so would be loading the engine more...

When fitting mine I tried the lights without starting the engine, and after about 4 times my battery was about flat. If you read the instructions it should tell you to always start car before switching lights on. :)

Well ive just come out t start work flat battery also just had hid kit fitted 2wks ago ??? Luckily bought spare battery from hallcroft when doing special deal £38.15. Only had last battery a yr but im for ever turning engine over to move up taxi rank then t cap it of 1st fare £8.80 only got £50 note there goes my float

Thanks guys ordered the batt so hopefully get it tommorow,
Just wondered incase my grounding was wrong they could be permanently drawing power and i always turn over engine before i turn on the lights
Thanks again
