High pitch whistle when driving

Noticed it a few times. Driving down road at 4.5k in 4th gear I can hear a whistle coming car. Disappears if I accelerate or change gear.

Any ideas at what this might be?

Sounds like it's coming from the engine

This sounds like its speed related so might be one of your belts.Probably the alternator belt.
does this happen if your stationary and rev the car up to 4.5k.

Maybe a leaking down pipe at the flexi bit?

Could be just wind noise, is yours a 2.4? I've had a noise and have had no way of resolving it since I've had my 2.0. I was told it's just a characterisitic if the engine and there's no cure, it can get very annoying and it's my only pet peeve with the car

If it only does it in 4th gear then it's a gearbox issue specific to that gear... maybe change the oil if it hasn't been done for a while.

Just had windscreen replaced noise gone at last only so it was screen or trim. Hope that helps someone
