Any idea how you change the clock on the LCD display at the top of the dash? I've had a good play around and a search on here and google and can't find out anywhere how to change it.

Just had a bit more of a search and it seems the Sat Nav needs to be working to change it, which mine isn't at the moment. Looks like a job for next weekend.

The clock recieves the 'time' from the GPS Satelites so is set automatically, You can't change it manually.

Just had a look on my car, it can be changed manually.

Press Menu
Go into Settings
Top right press '2' to go into the second screen
Select 'Clock Adjustment'

All the settings are in there. If your clock is 1 hour out, then it's because the Summer Time zone thingy has'nt been selected.

Hope this helps.

What year is your car, if it's pre-facelift like mine then you have to change it from the sat nav controls as you imply, very easy to do.

But if your sat nav isn't working then there's not much you can do.

What's up with your sat nav btw ?

Yeah it's a 2004 model. I'm getting the disc reading error message, which from reading the various threads suggests the lense needs cleaning, so hopefully this weekend I'll remove the DVD drive and have a go at cleaning the lense. If that doesn't work I'll have to send it off to Alpine at some point.

on the menu button, but I've just been to my car and took out the DVD and the menu button won't work ....doh

Just try a disc cleaner before you strip out the entire system, don't use abrasive cleaners or what not on the lense as it's a very sensitive piece

if you want to clean the lens forget cleaners, open the unit up and use a small amount of meths and cotton bud . no need to buy anything., this is going to take a few hours but better than paying honda a few grand.

actually that might leave oily residue, using off the shelf lens cleaner from an optician applied with a cotton bud should be safe.

have you tried cleaning the DVD in soapy water, that's worked on a couple of badly scratched game DVDs that my sons had, gives the surface a slight improvement to help the laser get sufficient data blocks from the DVD.

i have used that soap and stuff but reckon them disc cleaning things are a waste. a badly damaged disc is not fixable.

toothpaste is another trick thats meant to work by apparently filling in the grooves of the damaged disc.

all depends how scratched, if its very visible just forget it.

Eric I'm not saying that his DVD is scratched, I'm saying that cleaning the surface of a scratched DVD can help even a scratched DVD, and so it might help with his non-scratched DVD.

When I took the DVD out of my sat nav some months back, I got an error when I put it back in, I washed it, and it works again.

Thanks guys. The disc looks in good condition but there's no harm in giving it a clean. I've found a light buff with car polish has work on stratched discs in the past so I'll give that a go. I might see if anyone has a lense cleaner to hand and give that a go as well, ***uming it won't actually do any harm? If they fail then it looks like the DVD drive will be coming out, can anyone direct me to a thread detailing the easiest/best way of removing it?

aye, I know Brian. sometimes it works, sometimes doesn't, depends how badly scratched they are. I have used the aul soap myself, dont believe them lens cleaners are any good.

toothpase is just as good.

^ removing the unit is tricky, i have removed mine installing that xlink.

must be a linky somewhere, you need to remove that fascia around the hand brake, and near the ciggie area, its easy to lose screws so you need magnetic heads.

Hi all I have the same issue...

Had the unit out, opened the drive and cleaned it. It worked for just over a week and hasn't worked since. Anyone know what else I can try. I even made a backup of my disc, and when it was working it worked on both the old and new disc just fine so I don't think its the disc that's the problem.

What can I do next? Any suggestions...

To save taking the unit apart have you tried the "wet wipe and butter knife" system. Take a near dry wet wipe and place a butter knife or flat ruler onto it, fold back then with the disc out and the ignition off insert the "tool" into the slot, making sure there is enough of the wipe to get hold of should it jam. Then carefully swipe from the 2'0 clock position to centre a couple of times then remove. I did this and found quite a lot of dirt deposited onto the wipe. The gps now works. Another thing I have found is that they do not like cold damp weather, so moving to Florida could be another solution. LOL
