So I drove to lunch today and when I came back to the car it would not start.

At first when I turned the key to ACC the lights would come on (etc.) but when I turn the key everything dies and won't turn on the lights when repeated. No cranks or clicks, nothing. I came back to the car after a few hours and it did the same thing (accessories on at first then it just died.) I tested the battery and it's good and fully charged; I also fitted a new alternator a week ago so yeah that eliminates those two.

From what I've read on most forums and troubleshooting guides I'm looking at a faulty ignition switch.

Anyone got any experience replacing one? Any good DIY's out there?

I tried searching the forum but there's so many different ignition/starting problems its hard to find this specific one.

Adam go for the simple things 1st it might be your key needs recoding.
There is a DIY hear somewhere as if it's lost it's codeing the car won't start because if the immobiliser

I suspected the immobilizer. While walking back to the car I was hitting the unlock button and I set off the car alarm. After entering the car and trying to start it the alarm stayed on for a little bit even when nothing else was working.

Is the green key symbol on the dash constantly flashing when you try to start the car.??

Ignore the theft code for the radio/Nav as the UK accord does not have a code.

I didn't notice the key flashing, I'll have to check it out tomorrow.

I actually read that service manual entry in this service manual and I'll be looking into that tomorrow as well...

Thanks for all the help guys. The cheaper and easier this is the better :D

if the green key is continuously flashing you have a immobiliser fault. either the key, ECU, or antenna. Other than that i would be looking at the ignition switch.

Flashing while the key is in ACC? Once I turn it to crank everything dies and nothing is flashing.

Ahhhhh with you now. It would flash when you try to crank it. So that's good news as immobiliser issues are never simple. I would look at the ignition switch.
