This is massive noob question!

Are they any specific requirements for the 1.8 induction kit? Can you actually buy a kit or could you just purchase a universal kit with all the joints off eBay? Would that fit correctly (with persuasion) lol.
Do they perform better with closed induction or better with just a cone?

The first one fits, I had one although never used it, the second won't fit.

You can buy your own piping and gaskets etc and make your own custom intake system.

Closed induction is better as it wont suck hot air which the cone filter will which make you lose mid range tourque also when your stationary and idle they can be lumpy on a hot day.

If you just want the noise then there are other ways, you remove resonator box or drill holes on the airbox.

Resonator is the big black plastic box behind the bumper, you need to take bumper off to remove it. Personally I just drilled holes in my airbox which worked a treat.

That kit will fit, they supply different piping for use on different models, they have a picture of it with the Accord engine bay.

I pulled my resonator box out recently, I just dumped the whole thing, and left a hole where it used to connect. still filtered so should be fine

I've seen some people have literally cut the whole bottom off the air box as well lol leaves bascially one big open panel filter .. not sure really on that one, I think maybe I'll just make the hole a bit bigger. if that makes sense
