instrument panel/cluster light going on or off when going over bumps?

At the moment I have the light on the instument cluster turned up to full brightness. When I go over a bump it goes dimmed then comes back on bright when I go over another bump. Can anyone tell me what this could be? It doesnt affect the car really but if its a cheap easy fix I may aswell look into it.

The knob you turn on your cluster to adjust the brightness is worn. Full brightness is right at the end of turning it, as you go over bumps it switches between brightness. Turn it left all the way then all way right, about 10-20times it should fix it by cleaning the terminals- think old stereos with the volume knob.

Thanks Salim for the reply. I shall give that a go. I have some switch cleaner somewhere I used to use for stereo mixers so I wonder if that would work.

I was going to recommend the switch cleaner but the control dial goes through the plastic screen and facing of the clocks, so you'll just be spraying into the clocks and make a mess.

I may be wrong, this is from memory as don't own the car no more.
