Judder/vibration thoughout the car possible dua lmass flywheel problem?

Hi Michelle. My cars being suffering from similar problem to yours (also around the same milage). Initially I just got some aftermarket shafts and my local mechanic fitted them. Judder at 50 under acceleration went away but I also had a judder at around 20 which didn't go away! Eventually I'm getting the whole drivers side shaft (including the half shaft) replaced as we think its probably the half shaft now. Dealer is happy to fit a second hand one for me (actually he suggested I look for one), which was decent given the price of brand new honda ones.

Once diagnosed your honda dealer should try and get a donor car and swap shafts over to identify what's the culprit. It can be quite a bit expensive (honda labour rates), but in the long run it should save a lot of guess work and probably save you money. I wish I'd went straight to the dealer rather than trying to mess around!

I'll keep posted on how the aftermarket shafts are doing.

Sorry to hear you're having the same problem, I hope it is cured when you change the half shaft. I don't want to mess around having donor swap shafts and paying loads of labour because we've not had the car a week yet and we've already shelled out a few hundred pounds on tyres and balancing and now we are having to pay the costs of a Honda inspection. If we'd purchased the car privately that would be different, I guess we would be stuck having to pay out but we're looking back to the dealer who sold us the car for this. Hopefully, the problem will just be the driveshaft and nothing else and that's bad enough lol.

The garage think it is the driveshaft and plan to change over each section from a different car to locate the shaft at fault (fingers crossed it isn't them all lol) I'm just waiting to hear back from my Husband when he's spoken to the dealers we purchased the car from to see where we go from here. So I cannot book it in yet.

We've purchased a RAC warranty as previously mentioned so I'm going to read that now and check to see if it is covered under that doubt it will be though because it is a wearing part.

Well we're feeling like we've had the shaft tonight, or should that be we haven't had the shaft!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We've just been to pick the car up having taken it back nearly a week ago and we've been told the driveshaft has been changed. But the driveshaft hasn't been changed my hubby has been under the car to check it out, jacked it up and checked everything, no changes anywhere. We were also told that the bushes on the front had been changed (not told us which ones they've changed though) No evidence of any bushes having been changed either!!!! We collected the car and the guy who handed over the car couldn't look us in the face at all, neither of us, he was looking at the floor and moving around on the spot all the time he was talking to us, something I've never seen in anyone before.

The strange thing is, the car is OK, no vibration (well in the first 50 miles we've done) Only thing we can see that's been changed is the stereo has been tuned into a station that wasn't tuned in before and all the seating and mirrors have been moved (as you'd expect) Nothing else.

Please can anyone suggest what might have happened here, I know it is hard to say without actually seeing the car but it is worrying us a bit.

PS: Our Honda dealer told us the car needed a shaft, didn't know which part but it had a shaft problem. The Honda dealer that previously looked after the car confirmed the cars history and told us that the car had a distorted/bent shaft but the lease company wouldn't pay for repair. The previous owner also told us of the cars history and confirmed the fault started at 80,000 miles and took nearly 14,000 to pinpoint then cause then didn't get changed because the lease company took that car back.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

PS would you be worried if this was your car?

Did you take it back to who you bought it from then for the work to be done? I'd be making a phone call to the MD or someone important and asking many questions and telling them that your hubby is mechanicly minded etc and has checked the car out and you dont think the work has been done.

Has the car done many miles since you left it with them? I wonder if they stuck a 2nd hand shaft in it and ran it about for a week wouldnt take much to mucky it all up with the weather we've had?

Whatever I'd be on the phone and start mentioning trading standards too.

But if its fixed the problem then I probably wouldnt be too worried just rather upset with the company.

Thanks for your help. Yes, we took it back to the dealer we purchased it from, a NON Honda dealer. I didn't want to send it there but they wouldn't let us take it to any local garage around here. They sent the car out to someone they deal with as they don't fix vehicles and two people from the company have told us the works been done, one of them is a senior person.

My hubby took the mileage as he left the car there and it has covered 25 miles in total while they've had it. Hubby is convinced the shaft hasn't been touched. Like you say, he did say they could have fitted a used one and then run around in the muck which has covered the nuts and stuff in muck so no spanner marks can be seen. But he is totally 100% sure that the shaft isn't new at all, not one bit of it, there are no new bushes on it either. I wouldn't mind, he could have done the work himself but we didn't see why we should have to pay for it after only having the car for a few days and paying top dollar for it.

Basically we've been shafted, paid way too much for the car and then we feel like we've had the shaft from the garage as well. I don't see what we can do really, the fault isn't there at the moment so technically they seem to have cured it, probably cured it enough to take it out of their responsibility. Hope they have not done anything else to it untoward tp the vehicle. They did service it before we bought it, hope they've used the right oil, I think we will have to give it an oil change to be sure.

Hubby is going to phone them in the morning but having spoken to them already I don't see we will get anywhere.

I asked the guy in person tonight and we were told the whole driveshaft had been changed along with the bushes. Hubby asked if it was a new shaft and was it a Honda shaft and we were told it was an aftermarket one, so lies all round really by the looks of it.

Deffo change the engine oil and filter just for peace of mind! If you don't mind me asking where did you buy it from? I test drove one at the Car Show in Doncaster before I bought mine it was well over priced and they were really pushy i had a right job getting out of there!

I'd deffo mention trading standards and tell them your going to get it inspected by vosa because you don't think they've done the work they say they've done and see what they say to that.

Just keep your fingers crossed its fixed now.

I feel for you and are still going through the process of recovering monies from a garage I bought a Peugeot from in December. Court action starts on about 10 days. Keep at it and don't take no for an answer.

Thanks :)

This garage were not pushy at all. We were on the forecourt inspecting the outside of the car for quite a while before we asked for the keys then we looked it for much longer before asking for a test drive. In fact, that is why we bought the car from them because they were totally not pushy the dream dealers as it were and the staff were really nice.

The car seems to be fixed now so as long as it stays that way it should be OK.

Sorry to hear about your woes, As David has said I would also change the oil for peace of mind using the correct grade and maybe the Fuel Filter aswell.

I would guess the shaft has been changed if the vibrations are no longer feltalbeit with a used one .Can't see how they could cure it otherwise? have you test driven it properly and at high speed?

It was a silver 08 tourer but it was a sport gt so it wasn't yours.

I ***ume you've not had to pay anything towards these repairs?

One other thing I'd change the box oil for the proper Honda stuff and then for peace of mind you'll know its got the right stuff in and the right amount as if they've had shaft out it will have lost some oil and you can't be sure they will have put the right stuff back in.

Cheers :)

Firstly, yes we've tested it, well tested it at all speeds and gears and under very quick excelleration including cornering and etc, it seems perfect so far. I don't like the way the wheel kicks as you go into a sharp corner though, a Honda guy told us that is a characteristic of some Accords though and nothing to worry about.

Silver one lol, sport GT no less too, no EX here lol, no sports :)

No we have not had to pay anything out and they've been OK about it and not complained at all. OK, we've had to pay to travel backwards and forwards to the garage and pay to fuel up the car they lent us as it was on vapour as hubby left the garage. But all said and done, they seem to have cured it, I just couldn't understand why this really nice lad who'd been so helpful and kind on our other visits couldn't look us in the eye and lied to us. If they'd just said they'd stuck a secondhand shaft on it, it wouldn't have mattered to us, as long as the works done well and with care that's all we are worried about really. I hate being given the Bull line, hubby isn't as bothered as me lol, even though he's a techy doesn't bother him.

I know what your saying that's the worst bit being given the bull ***** why can't they just be honest!

Anyway fingers crossed for you :)

Cheers everyone, will change the oil and filter etc.

Hey davecmr, looking at the photo of your car it looks lovely, I bet the sport one handles much better than the EX, old drivers here lol, no sports for us, the dogs would be pressed up against the glass with the power lol. :)

Paul the bobby, I really hope your court case goes well and in your favour. It is such a shame that everyone cannot deal honestly. That saying treat others as you would like to be treated yourself comes to mind here.

The other saying, what goes around comes around, also comes to mind.

Lol yeah its quite funny watching our golden trying to keep himself from falling over he seems to prefer sitting up and watching out the window rather than lying down hehe.

They're all the same, frightened they miss a thing! Our male retriever loves this new car and sits right in the middle of the boot looking out, bolt upright, all I can see in the rear view mirror is the back of his head dead centre to the window, ears out. He's taken to barking at other dogs now too as he passes them! Female one isn't that bothered, depends what mood she's in. hehe

Lol sometimes I get a right stern look off ours when I look in the mirror as if I've done summat wrong.

LOL, I know that look well, our female retriever does it loads, funny dogs retrievers are, they speak so well with their faces...............

Yes you should see the its time for a walk look I get!

How's the car anyway has it been ok today?

LOL,

I've not taken the car out yet today, just about to take the dogs out for walkies then big clean up and ironing pile ........................I'm going to try and get it out later sometime.

Here's an idea! dogs in the boot nice trip to Barnsley cos I know a retriever that'd love to go walkies with 2 others and that way you get an excuse to drive the car lol ;)

Barnsley isn't that far away either lol, very tempting........lol. I could tell hubby, I didn't get his shirts ironed because I decided to go out for the day...............might work lol. Mind you, I've been coming up with excuses for days now, so probably won't work this time........ I'm getting nagged by the muts now, trying to finish a cuppa before going out and you'd think they'd had to wait an age........................

Nope its not that far I used to live in York and still work there so there's a tourer sport parked up doing nothing all week! well until the mrs has it over the 6wk hols cos her Swift aint got a big boot for transporting his lordship about.

Glad it's sorted Michelle - you can both put this hassle behind you now and enjoy the car.

Just v. recently bought mine but am not using it yet until I get a spare tyre and change the oil  but it'll be sorted in time to go over to the Lakes this weekend B)

Yep fingers crossed it is sorted, going to put a load of miles on it at the weekend.

Working in York is a nightmare lol, not the easiest place to drive round, mind you Leeds is worse...............

My Golden Leaver is not a fan of sitting down he stands up as well which is funny watching him keep balance on round abouts. He loves the tourer especially the dog mat which is handy as its active carbon design stops the dog smells especially winter wet dog the worst IMO

Glad car seems okay

LOL, they're all the same, so frightened of missing a thing. I love the way they lean around corners too, so funny. Even more funny if they fall over (obviously they don't hurt themselves lol) Must look daft to the car behind when they lean then disapear from view at speed...... :D I go mad with hubby if he does that to them..................

What's the active carbon mat you are talking about, where did you get it please? We've got a tourer dog guard on order from HH, seen three on ebay since lol, always the same
