Have to say these Honda K20 engines aren't the quietest engines when you accelerate (not harshly ) when cold, mine's the K20Z2 and last Civic Type-S was the older K20A2, both exactly the same clattery tappet noise , quietens down when engine warms up, shame Honda never improved on that aspect !!
just thought I'd share that bit of useless information!!LOL

The design of the head/cam ***embly is probably the most practical set up imo.
Hydraulic cam followers can't be adjusted for wear, so they would just need replacing at some point. I've had them on a couple of 8v cars and replacing them when they inevitably get gunked up oil passages/become noisy requires removing the camshaft etc. which takes time and risks damaging expensive components.
Plus, you couldn't realistically use hydraulic cam followers in an engine where you have 4 valves per cylinder and you want to vary both valve timing and valve lift over the rev range - I'm not sure that's even possible with hydraulic cam followers.
Very true Salim, spent many an hour years ago working on motors and adjusting tappets etc. , always satisfying when done and they sound much quieter! think I also need to change the oil on mine at some point soon as I think it's got 10W40 in it and get some 5w30 or the likes in it as when it's pretty cold out there; at first start up there is a slight rattle for a couple of seconds where I think the oil is a bit sluggish getting to the relevant parts as it were.
