Hi folks,

Can anyone tell me if it is a simple job to change the battery in my key fob? I was told by a Halfords chap that they had stopped changing batteries in keys as they had too many problems with lost codes etc.

I am trying to be cautious, as usual.

:D

Cheers

Easy job but I'm sure there is a time limit to put the new battery back in.

I have put some pics here - if your screw is rounded :

Thanks to all for your responses. I have a set of precision drivers; hopefully they will do the job.

Odd that the fob sometimes need a harder press on the buttons than other times. I wondered if that was a symptom of a flattening cell.

Cheers folks, most helpful as usual.

Best wishes

One of the keyfob batteries is dead in the car I'm about to collect, and I'm not sure how long it's been like that for. Does anyone know if the fobs lose their coding if unpowered for a given time? Shall hopefully be taking a battery along to check before I collect it - CR1616, I believe?

I've also got a key fob problem. Keys are both flat (no red light), replaced the batteries in both, still, both keys are dead (no light), is this common? ***ume after 10 years of being thrown around the transponders have gone. Ordered one off of ebay for £25. I've seen the programming technique with the key in the ignition, does this work or is it an expensive trip to a locksmith to get it coded? My key blade is fine, so just planing on swapping the new transponder into my old key.
