I have very poor range with the keyless entry remote. Both keys only work when placed about 3" away from windscreen or drivers door. So far I have fitted new key remote batteries, (twice in case one set was a bad batch), reprogrammed a key, cleaned battery and contacts. The car battery is fully charged.I have been to Honda, the technician confirmed that there was a problem, he suggested was that the battery in the remote was changed, or that he would book it in to carry out tests, but I don't wish to do that. The receiver in the car is part of the fuse box unit situated in the panel forward of the RH side front door. The technician said there was no seperate aerial for the receiver.

Also, if unlocking the car with the key the alarm goes off and can only be swthched off with the remote. I have disconnected the car battery and reconnected with the IGN on, but this didn't change the symptoms.

eeerrr.... why not?

how old is the cars actual battery? what year is your car? could be fully charged but still a weak battery, new battery may fix this problem.

unlocking with the key whilst the alarm is on will work and the alarm is normal to sound, unlocking with the key is there just incase alarm stops working or battery is flat... emergency purposes.

I agree, get the car battery tested. Modern car batteries seem to last very well, then fall off a cliff, causing all sorts of sudden, random electrical problems.

Don't want to spend money unnecessarily. Was hoping someone had had same issue and could tell me what the fix was.

I obviously can't rule anything out till problem is fixed, but I don't think it is the car battery as it is fairly new and the remote entry range is very poor when fully charged with a charger still attached. I have ordered a new fob off ebay and am waiting for that.

Has anyone come accross this before?

What should the range be?

Forgot to say the car is a 2004 2.4 Tourer EX, 133k miles, both keys have the appearance of being well used. The car itself is in very good condition and drives great, it has a full (every 12.5k miles)Honda only service history, everthying else works perfectly. The only other issue with the car is a drop link knocking at the rear, I have a pair on order and will be fittting myself.

Do a "clarkson" test, hold the fob against your head (temple) and then try, it will increase the range, can do mine from 50 yards. But to be honest why bother??
