Knock when braking/steering

First off id just like to say ive checked the search forum tool but cant find anything that covers my question. As the ***le says I get an occasional knock from under the car when braking at low speeds and/or steering, happens most when manouvering to park. Its been there for a while but now its irritating me. I took the front wheels off to have a look earlier but couldnt see anything obvious i.e. worn bushes. Whilst looking I also noticed the nearside driveshaft has lost a lot of its coating and is covered in rust, is this normal? Anyone have an idea what the knocking could be? Thanks.

my guess on the knocking is the droplinks. rusty driveshafts is pretty common.

Ill try the droplinks, in fact it looks like ill only need one as the drivers side one looks relatively new. Im just a bit concerned about the driveshaft as its REALLY rusty and the one on the other side is fine.

unless there is play on the driveshaft, there isnt much to worry about.
