Hi please pardon my ignorance. My Accord 2.0 vtec 2002 has started leaking gearbox oil or similar from around what I presume is the slave cylinder ontop of the gearbox at the side of the engine? It's clearly coming from there as I can see the trail of oil. I was hoping on of you learned people could help me out with the info I need to fix it and if it's a common fault. Thank-you so much.
Kris
I think that is quite normal in that place. It's oil that "climbs" from the gear box from the "things" that engages the gears, and from the gear box breather.
And no, it's not from the slave cylinder. The slave cylinder is in the front of the engine, near to the front engine mount.
Mine also has some oil in that place, not a problem...
May I ask what the thing is with the yellow cap. It seems to move the levers when I press the clutch. There was a patch of oil on the drive and it was wet under the car near the drivers side front corner. Does the tube pipe thing with the yellow plastic cap do anything because I lost the original cover and replaced it with a plug from my sons water pistol and that's when the oil started leaking. Thanks again
The pipe with the yellow cap is the breather pipe. I don't know how well you have plugged it with that cap but would suggest preferably not air tight as it is to allow pressure equalisation caused by gear box oil temperature change.
You can see it here (part no6), maybe order the part from Holdcroft Honda.

Thank-you kindly. It makes perfect sense. I removed the yellow plug and no more leaks. I will change the gearbox oil next week when I service it. I am so glad it's sorted. I bought it to for the 30 mile a day school runs now my little girls are two big to fit in the back of my Prelude and I was amazed how nice it is. Thanks again for your kind help.
I'm sure you know this but thought i'd add it anyway. When changine the gearbox oil ONLY use standard Honda gearbox oil. No cheap copies mate. Do that and the car will be fine.
