If a bearing has 'gone' then jacking up the car and moving top/bottom will confirm it.
It might just be dry though and when I had a strange noise from the bearing of my last car (Citroen ZX), I loosened off the central nut, sprayed libreally with WD40 into every crevice I could get the straw into or nearby, spun the wheel for about ten minutes and then tightened the nut back up.
The noise never returned and it passed two more MOTs, which also confirmed I had not impacted on the rear brake components.
