Hi peeps and a Happy New Year to you all!! Can someone with experience on the cg8 get back to me with there opinions on this please? Whilst pulling out of a junction last week, i selected first gear but when i started to let the clutch out, it started biting straight away. The car has done almost 38000k so is it time for a new clutch or is it something else? Its happened e few times now and its getting me angry lol!
At 38k i doubt its the clutch unless you are a monumentally bad driver. If the clutch has gone it will slip not bite. A good test is to drive up to 35mph then select 5th and put your foot down.
If the revs rise and the car does not increase in speed your clutch is slipping (time for a new clutch)
A low biting point will probably just need an adjustment or the slave cylinder is knackered. Take it to a mechanic to get it looked at.
How'd you know that i'd be laughing at that???  I had a few jokes lined up too. But then again don't think they'd be suitable for here
Ok, some honda clutches fail by breaking a retaining pice around the clutch disc springs, seen a lot of these, and what happens is it becomes very difficult to engage gear, not slip.

Ive had the car 2 months so i didn't put the 38k on it so cant say how its been driven. There,s no slippage in any gear, just the instant bite when i let the clutch out.
The clutch is NOT adjustable, If it is biting way too soon there is a problem!! Either the slave or master cylinder is having issues or the clutch itself is failing. Having replaced about 100 Accord clutches i would say its a failed spring retainer, but without seeing the car impossible to gice a definitive diagnosis.

Ok, be careful they dont try to empty your wallet too much, we do a full clutch replacement using genuine honda clutch for £300 plus vat. as a guide for you.
£300? What, including fitting it? Do you magically teleport it in or something?
I've been told to expect £800+ because the subframe and steering rack have to come off and it bumps up the labour bigtime. Sounds like the bargain of the decade
Craig your best bet is to give them a call mate. They'll be able to give you a price.
As Dan has said the 6th gens do seem to be an easier change, but it's always worth a call to them mate. Chances are they'll be able to give you a price that'll be hard to beat elsewhere. As an example a drive to VtecDirect is a 400 miles round trip for me in the ATR, so about 30mpg, and it still works out much cheaper than getting any work done at my local trusted mechanic who already gives me a great price on work.
Last time i went for some MOT work the price worked out (inc petrol) about £200 cheaper to take the car to Andy. And i know that by taking the car to him, the work was done to the highest quality.

7th gen is a little more difficult yes, but still we can do those at a much lower price than most dealers etc, as we specialise in this kind of work. We also get great prices on new clutches as we buy direct from Honda japan in a lot of cases.
I think last 2.4 accord clutch we did came out at just around the £500 mark.
That's still knocking a good £350 off local estimates, which is a belter of a price Still talking to the dealer to work out what's going to happen with mine, but if it doesn't go my way I can see myself giving you a shout
