Guys, I am in real trouble - I need some help.

A week ago the stearing lock siezed up and I bought a new one for the car from Lings Honda
It came complete with 2 keys and all electrical connections etc. The keys supplied are ordinary keys, not like my old ones which I was able to open and close the car remotely. That doesn't matter, I can live with using the old key to get in the car and the new keys to start the it.

Just fitted it and although it turns the engine, it will not fire up. I did read smewhere that the keys had to be reprogrammed but I would not have thought was the problem because they are ordinary keys not remote keys.

Has anyone had the same problem. Lings were no help at all which is annoying given they supplied it.

Any help greatly appreciated

Not a topic i've dealt with much myself, but my understanding is there's a chip in the key that communicates with the immobiliser, which I imagine is now missing (or at least not ***ociated with your car, "programmed") and is stopping your car starting

Can you take the blade out of the key you have and put it inside the old fob? That might be a workaround. I guess you need the circuit board from your old key (with immobiliser chip) combined with blade from new key which turns the barrel?

Ive also seen people do dodgy workarounds on other cars where you hold the old fob near the ignition barrel and turn the key - that might work to test the theory

Hi btjtaylor
thanks for your reply.
Can't do that, the new keys as I said are just ordinary keys with nothing in the fob

regards

Maybe the blade is interchangeable though?

Can you post pic / part numbers of what you have?

Good thought but the blades are encased in the key fob seamlessly and no way of getting them out.

regards

I think you need keys with a transmitter in that can be programmed to the car.
Have you been in touch with the people who supplied them?
They must be at fault.

Well - it's gone back to them for a refund. I managed to rig the old one to start the car but it's not the solution.
I will try an auto locksmith next.
I can't believe Hondas lack of concern. Even their tech help line guy was less than helpful. In fact no help.

Thanks for your input stellamon anyway.
