Hi all,
After a long time I have finally decided to refit the SAT NAV drive I sent to Alpine to get fixed.
I reinstalled it no problem but now it wont find a GPS singal. I disconnected the battery for 30mins and then engine on but after 10mins no joy and it tells me to move the vehicle, disconnect battery and try again!!
I was wondering on the back of the SAT NAV i put back in 3 cables, a white socket, black and green. Theres one cable missing from the left of the drive but im sure there wasnt one there anyway?
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas? checks to do?

Regards Jim

I can only suggest that you check that there are no more cables in the back. However from what you describe there should a section of the board which is blank.

From what I recall there are only 3 connectors. Does the screen etc respond ok?

Hi
Thanks for the fast reply. Im pretty sure there was only 3 and i doubled checked I put them back in ok. But ill have to do it again :( the screen was ok but I cant press any buttons because it doesnt go past the "finding GPS" page.
Ill let you know once ive check everything
Jim

Have you tried the diagnostic screen - can't remember the buttons to press, but it has been posted here many times.

Kind of like the 3 fingered salute to WIndows.

HI,
Ill try the diagnostic mate. Iv just been out and disconnected everything and am waiting to reconnect the battery. I also removed an air freshener from the dash which i thought might be interferring.
Im gonna try again and then ill try the Diagnostics screen. I am wondering if it because I am doing it with a COPY of my sat nav disc rather than the original??? I cant see how that would make a difference?!?!? I ewould if thought it would just come up with "NO DVD Disc error"
Anyway ill let you know in about half an hour what happened.
Cheers for the help guys

Jim

I doubt a copied disc would give this problem.

Low quality media will kill off the laser though, so make sure your backup is a good quality brand.

I might be wrong but i remember someone hear with the same problem. It was i think to do with the radio channel was very poor.Or was this for the TMC correct me if im wrong.

Sounds like a TMC problem dude

YEAH!!
Fixed it. Not exactly sure what the problem was but after reconnecting everything all is good.
I think it might of been the air freshener. Ive got one of those poppy coral ones with a metal top. I reckon that was interferring.
Anyway all is good.
Thanks for the help guys.

Jim

Good result Jim thanks for the feed back

Good news bud.

Glad it's sorted.

I've got one of them air fresheners too. I've tucked mine under the drivers foot well near the air vent, it doesn't interfere with anything down there. Plus you get a nice lemony smell every time you put the heater on. :)
