If one of the Diesel injectors is loose can it prevent the engine starting?

I spoke to a trained and certified mechanic who told me that an engine can start with the injector loose. I honestly thought it wouldn't run?

Yes, it'll definitely run with loose injectors... when I removed mine recently I loosened then with the engine running until I saw all 4 blowing.
