Thanks Baz, but it's not just for me... I would only use 0w-30 and do my own servicing (so no garage to argue with). Is the scan from your owners manual?

The scan is from an Oil booklet produced by Honda in Ireland B)

Always use a synthetic motor oil that meets the ACEA specification, and is the proper weight as shown in the following chart. When using Synthetic oil you must follow the oil and filter change intervals given in the maintenance schedule

It is highly recommended that you use any brand of 0W-30 synthetic motor oil meeting the minimum specification : ACEA B1

You can select the proper ACEA viscosity oil for your vehicle according to this chart

0-30 covers below 28 to above 33
0-40 covers the same
5-30 covers defined -25 to above 33
10-30 covers -20 to above 33

NOTE* Using oils other than those of preferred viscosity may adversely affect fuel consumption.

so it recommends it but offers options and only quotes increased fuel consumption as a side effect.

So it seems Honda are inconsistent in their recommendations, depending whether you look at the Irish Honda website, the DVD, the Owners Manual or ???. Garages (even Honda) are bound to be confused by this and may even take advantage of the confusion by using whatever they can source cheaply (which probably won't be 0w-30).

So - if you want 0w-30 - make sure you insist that your garage uses it! Otherwise you're going to have a really difficult time proving to them that they're wrong.

Agree Jon iv spoken to Chris and when he worked for Honda the only 2 oils they uses was 5w-30 and 10w-40.
Just to add to the confusion.So guys getting there cars serviced at any main dealer just insist on 0w-30.If the dealers don't use this grade take your own oil and ask to see the oil being used for your own benefit.

I've often wondered whether car dealers would dare offer an option of a DVD of the car being serviced.

Would be easy to set up, a camera covering the whole servicing bay with a digital recorder that runs when the car is in the bay, then save it to DVD.

Would any dealer dare do this .... I doubt it :blink:
