Since I've had the car, the fuel gauge has always been a little temperamental.
Most of the time it works fine, but sometimes it reads nothing, not pointing at the 0, but a bit below like it does when the ignition is off.
Now I had ***umed it was the fuel sender, which is supported by an invoice from Honda from its annual service, stating it requires a new "fuel tank sensor".
Now this didn't really bother me, as I know how far I can get on a tank of fuel.
However....
A few days ago, I was driving along and all the gauges in the instrument cluster stopped working. They all went to zero, save for the temperature gauge which went to the max mark. I think the fuel light also came on, when I still had ~half a tank of fuel.
After about 5 mins it came back to life, and so far hasn't done it again. I've also noticed I don't seem to have a seatbelt light. It never comes on, and if I drive without wearing it, I don't get an annoying beeping. I don't think the bulb has gone, it seems to think that the seatbelt is being worn.
Probably a separate issue, but I thought it might be worth mentioning.
So does anyone know if there are any common faults that might explain this?
Failing that, peoples opinions on weather its the sender unit thats gone, or a dodgy connection of some sort, likely behind the instrument cluster.
